What is a Ladyboy

Whats is a Ladyboy really? I read about them but can´t really figure out their role. I ´ve seen them in the bars, but never talked to one. What do they do except for make sure guys pay the drinks or barfine and maybe escort guys back to their hotel rooms.
I read in one post that the mamasan can kick the shit out of all the Ladyboys in Casanova. Why? Is the mamasan (in general) well tooled up or just hard as fuck? Old? How do I become mamasan?

As for the Mamasan's role it's not so much  "kicking the shit out of ladyboys"  as keeping them in line.
Being  " hard as fuck" is not necessarily a qualification.
I met Jessica who was the mamasan of Obsessions about 5 years ago. She is a really nice person but was also a very good mamasan.
I'd say personality was a bigger asset for a mamasan than being a tough person.
