  • Dog Fighting...

I wonder what your take is on Dog Fighting...

It's a popular topic of conversation on both sides of the pnd at the moment. Michael Vick (American football player) has landed in trouble because of it... Documentaries in the UK have been made about the fights and breeding of fighting dogs and just today some so called Brits were found guilty of getting dogs to fight each other to death.

I really really dispair. And I'm no dog lover. Actually - just the opposite. I can't stand them and I don't unde3rstand why anyone would want to keep them living under the same roof as themselves... but that's by the by and not the point of my thread...

Now I only know what I've seen on the news so I'm not an expert, but how can any sane rational person get pleasure out of seeing two large animals fight purely for the sake of fighting?

It's not a lion chasing down a deer... It's not stepping on a bug...

And yet - while these barbarians have been found guilty of various offences they aren't really punished. 750 pound fine? Hmmm... you may as well just say "Bad luck on getting caught, old bean. Next time be more careful!"

Here are the names of the primative animals...

Mamoon Ahmed, 24, of Phipson Road, Birmingham
Yasser Khalid, 25, of Rotton Park Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham
Nabeel Safdar, 25, of Ash Road, Saltley, Birmingham
Majid Mushtaq, 28, of Fletcher Road, Preston, Lancashire
Imran Arif, 29, of Sandway Gardens, Washwood Heath, Birmingham

As you can see they aren't teenagers out getting their kicks. These are people who should be responsible members of our communities... They've also got something else in common, but for the life of me I can't see it at the moment. maybe it'll come to me...

The only fit punishment would be for all the guilty people here to fight each other to death and the winner to be put down...

This story made the headlines here today.

I think its a particular sick thing to do and watch, and cant fathom what the attraction, though it is gaining massive popularity amongst the gambling fraternity.

The 2 convicted today have been told to expect a custodial sentence.

I really don't get the hoopla about dog fighting all of a sudden, it has been going on here in New Mexico for years, we just passed a law banning cockfighting one of only two states the other louisiana.

Also we had the pedophile priest scandal about 10 to 15 years ago before it broke the headlines back east and on the west coast. We had a treatment center here were all the priest caught doing the dirty would be sent and then they would be released onto our unsuspecting congregations. I kept wondering when the church would wake up but they didn't until it hit the big time.

Same same with dog fighting, until it hit the big media markets no big deal. Personally I don't see the point nor do I care for boxing.

SB....An excellent piece of investigative reporting (on this forum) on your part and before I really have a go at someone, is it accurate to assume those names are correct ?

The names in this case are correct...

            The link to the story...

The documentary I saw however featured "The Farmers Boys" which are an Irish group and the docco went into Europe to see some sad white trash breeding killer dogs for fights...

It's pretty sick when you get your rocks off by watching animals tear each other apart to the death.

It doesn't really matter where you are from and actually it doesn't really matter what you do... but I really had hoped the government and people of the United Kingdom would not be reverting back to these classic medievil forms of entertainment.

There was a story on the radio on how theses guys get the dogs into Britain, as they are in fact banned here.

They will bring litters of puppies in, where one will be a proper Pit bull and decleare it as something else, they are also drugged and shipped in boxes by overnight carriers, and also hidden in cars and trucks as they come from the continent.

So much for keeping rabies out.

It's a disgusting "sport". Having assisted a Vet put well over 100 stitches into a dog mauled by another (very stinky job too) just from a random street dog fight, not an organised one, I'm of the opinion that the organisers, and their entire audience should be drowned in a vat of cold sick. Repulsive twats. Sick society. Those that are cruel to animals are often cruel to humans.

Assuming that the Union Flag in your signature is not an affectation - you realise that cock fighting has been banned in the UK since around 1860?

I think allstar is talking about the other kind of cock fight, aka "crossing swords" with an lb!

Back to the topic at hand - I agree that people who are into this kind of "sport" may also be prone to violence against people as well.

The names of those involved are interesting , but the name of the judge is even more so!

That sort of cock fighting was banned around 1880 but the law was modified about 1990 to allow those above 21 years of age to partake.
                        Since lowered to 18!

                            Dogfighting

Though not as bad as cockfighting because there is a hierarchy of living beings with humans at the top.

Dogs, cats, changs, and dolphins most would agree are more beloved that rats and roaches.

But I'm more concerned about dogs attacking people than dogfighting.

And I'm most concerned about humans killing each other be it in Iraq or the Sudan or the south of Thailand.

If you were British you'd be right to be concerned. Dogs are bred as weapons there and every single day they attack (and often kill)children, old people and anyone the owners set them on.

Dog ownership should be confined to those who can prove that they can offer a dog a good home and care for it. Same as foster parents. If they can't then they should not be able to keep dogs. Plus they should be licensed at about 1,000 pounds a year and put down if they are caught off a leash or causght defecating on the beaches, roads or any other public right of way.
