  • Drunk Driving in Pattaya!

    Hi guys
Wanting to hire a motor bike for my time in Pattaya @ xmas but i know that most of my time there i will be under spell of chang Not that i plan to travel to much but just around walking street and down to soi 6 7 & 8. Last time i was there i noticed the police checking drivers licences a fair bit and wondered if caught under the influence of alchohol what would happen to you ?

I wouldn't worry so much about ending up in the slammer as I would ending up in the hospital...

True... You won't get done for drink driving unless you are actually in an accident.

Be careful, mate. Pattaya at night isn't a place for driving out of control.

You must be fucking mad . Ive seen enough bad accidents down there to put me of riding a bike for life.
        dont bother...is my advice..

remember seeing a large truck stuck in the middle of the main junction up from Walking Street and jutting out underneath was a pair of legs and mangled ironwork.... yech.... the Wicked Witch of the East !revisited.

Perhaps you should tape one of those illuminated bar beer badges to your crash helmet ... At least when im in town.

But at least IF shit happens and you come off the bike for some drunk reason, just rely on the Sawangbreakmybone's to look after you. Just imagine serious head injury with the playdo crash helmet (if your wearing one) and then some "do gooder samaritan" (who just cleaned out your wallet), then throws you in the back of an unmodified pick-up for a 5km journey to Bkk Pattaya hospital.

(BKK Pattaya Hospital pay the biggest reward, but if they find no evidence of ability to pay like a credit card, insurance doc etc, then they chuck you back out to the local Govt hospital) - in another pick-up, oh and your on the floor, not some neck restraining device......

Sad but true, if you survive the accident, your sure as hell not likely to survive the ride to the hospital.

Motorbikes at night - yup we have all been there, done it, but we would never suggest it to a friend. Just get a baht bus and be done with it.

          Cheers

Which brings me to my two main complaints about Pattaya.

1] With all it's tourist money, why the hell is a top notch paramedic facility not in service as opposed to the volunteers which mardhi gives rave reviews about.

2] I know there are religious beliefs associated with them, but I do wish the stray/wild dogs, especially those which bite farangs could be shipped over the border to be dealt with by the canine loving Chinese.

Yeah 2nd road is just crazy at night ... I mean CRAZY!!! I've seen more motor bike accidents along there then anywhere else. One night while we road back on the Baht Bus this nut went flying past us on a bike then we past him up the road after he crashed into a pole. His body was wrapped around the pole like a rag doll. It was sick to see... I'm sure he was killed and this was no Thai guy... he was a tourist that had to have been drunk.

He could always use the Billy template - just whack up a load of pics and let those do the talking

By the way, if anyone did not get my rename of the emergency services - around Pattaya they have a 'charity organisation" (maybe charity begins in your wallet though as you wont have any cash when you wake up after they have 'helped' or is it fleeced you). The charity is called the Sawangboriboom or something like that and they cruise the streets in basic pickups looking for accidents. The intention is good in the absence of a proper ambulance service, but the execution of the service is somewhat subjective. You often read the reports in the press, of someone being rushed to the hospital by this charity, only to be found dead on arrival.

                      Cheers

All charity is business. It doesn't matter if it's Pattaya opportunists looking for a nearly dead tourist or 'Children In Need.' It's all there to make money and keep the administrators in nice houses.
