  • Whats in a name

Just musing as I do when sipping a JD:

When I chose my avatar and name for the forum the chain of logic went - need a name that disguises my identity and as harlequin was the master of disguise that will do. Then coming over all literary I remembered a lesser Agatha Christie character called Harley Quinn who would turn up make strange pronouncements and vanish - thus my alter ego was born.

Never thinking that the name Harley has only one meaning if you come from the

So despite not having straddled the iron horse for too many years (as I am a fat old bastard) I am now Harley Quinn - bike and LB lover not to mention the bedrock supporting the ATS football league (I know Coinflip is below me but thats only because he doesn't play every week - I worked for my position)

Ironically this has rekindled my interest in two wheeled transport and I am actually trying to get into shape - the prospect of a meet up with the divine Miss Winkler being my other motivation

So - how about the rest of you how did you become the men, LBs and Mrs Perthcouples we know and love (mostly) in the forum?

Hey, now this may prove to be an interesting thread! Something like this was done a while ago, but now there are a lot more members!

Well, my user name comes from my work - I am a pharmacist. rx is a Latin abbreviation for prescription, so rxpharm it is!

I'd posted for a while on another website as BritAMex... (Britain, America & Mexico... the three countries where I was most in at the time.)

But when it came time to start this show I decided I need a new ID...

I surfed the internet and within half an hour I made up Stogie Bear.

I like to bet on the horses and back in the 96 season, a colt called Pentire won me enough to make sure those  trips to Thailand were safe for the foreseeable future

He is now a stallion in New Zealand serving ninty mares a year

                I like monkeys!

I like Monkey in The Water Margin (precursor to Monkey (was Tripitaka a boy or girl in real life? I fancied 'him' when I was a kid, and insisted she was a girl, kinda made my friends worry a little lol)), I like Hanuman (Hindu God) and also am in a 'gang' called '...... Monkeys' in an online game.

                So Monkey it was....

Oh, and different people at different times in my life have often called me monkey or ling

p.s. before someone points it out, I know my avatar is an ape

Well, since you asked... strocube is the first three letters of stropharia and the first three letters of cubensis put together, stropharia cubensis, aka, magic mushrooms.
I was a huge fan of Terence Mckenna, (RIP) and I believe he mentioned the the name strocube in one of his talks, or possibly in a book.
