Yes I am serious.
Herself's family sleep with a mat and a head pillow just like that. They do have a sort of quilt/duvet thing to put over them when it's cold. Yes it does get quite cold at night in Issan!
I have slept like that myself both on a concrete floor and a wooden one in an old house.
Believe me the wooden floor is much better even if it is uneven and moves when other people move around.
When Herself's family turn up to stay in her apartment they normally sleep on the floor even though there is a spare bed.
