JB, I think Ozzie may be making a word play on Kai's name. In Thai, Kai can mean "chicken".

Yes that is exactly what I mean sorry Jellybean should have been a bit clearer with my question.

I have hard her called both Gai (ไก่ ) which means chicken and Kai (ไข่) which means egg. So I would say you are in the best position to put this to rest.

As for your real question she definitely pronounces it  Gai with a G but spells it with a K - I've never seen her write it down in Thai though - I'll find out for my learned friend

i've been confused by the same seeming contradiction with two girls in pattaya - at stringfellows at the time - kang (pronounced gang) and king (pronounced ging).

is this an intrinsic translation difficulty with thai to english phonetics? or were they just named by the same guy who named the new airport?
