In my opinion and that of "herself" Nong Poy is the Supernova of LB'S. My wife thinks that Nong is amazingly beautiful and she watches her any time she is on Thai TV or she will buy any magazine that features photos of Nong. Mind you , the wife is quite a looker and turns heads anywhere we go but whenever she sees Nong Poy she trys to tell me that she is "not beautiful" and wants to look like Nong. Christ, if she trys to change her face with surgery after her SRS I had better work my ass off a lot more.

If you marry a LB do you have to pay a dowry?

I'm not thinking of marrying nor am I a 'cheap Charlie' but.... where do Thai families stand on this one?

Does anybody have any experience in this, just interested, that's all...

I payed a dowry, not a big deal for me. I saw the shitty run down shack her family were living in, I had met her mother and father, sister and brothers and I liked them. Now I know that because she was not a middle class or hi-so girl, that she was not a virgin so to speak and most important she was a bar girl I did not have to give a dowry of any amount. However I knew that by giving a small dowry to her family I would get face and so would her family in their village. I also wanted her to feel like a real woman and be married in the Thai fashion. I told her what I would give to her family, the amount of Gold Baht that I would give to her Mama and that was that. I payed for the entire wedding and was happy to do so. Her family got to keep the envelopes of money that were given to the bride and groom at the wedding night party. So a cost break down came out like this, 140,000Baht dowry, 2Baht of gold to her mother and 750000Baht for the wedding. Am I a sucker, a world class fool, a stupid idiot? I will let you guys decide that yourselves. As for me, I am now reaping the benefits of being a "good man" to my wife and her family. Unless you know what that feels like and experiance yourself don't make assumsions.
Bottom line on this dowry thing, you do not have to pay one but you will come to regret that decision even if she goes ahead and marries your cheap ass.

I've seen those 'shitty run down shacks' myself and if I was marrying someone I'd do the same. After all, it's not just the girl you marry but the whole family come with the deal.

I guess the money is relative, to some people 750,000THB isn't much, but to others it's a small fortune.
