Tomorrow I do my first visa run. A 6 hour trip to the Cambodian border & back, I hope there are some interesting fellow travellers on the bus. Not that I would want to talk the whole way, I am sure there would be a mutiny. And leaving at 6.30 am, I think most of us will be trying to sleep.

There are no public safety requirements to worry about here unlike home. So stay awake & be careful.

Someone who wasn't being careful was an overweight Englishman who made an impressive appearance on Walking Street 2 nights ago. Running out of a little alley off WS, he suddenly burst onto the street screaming "C'mon!!... C'mon!!... you wanna piece of me? Then c'mon!!!"

This while dressed only in pants, his white wobbly flesh looking obscene as he drunkenly railed against some little Thai man.

The Thai must respond, his face is on the line & the Englishman had crossed every line there is to cross. Just screaming here is frowned upon, combine that with being drunk & disrespectful, our lad was fucked before he started.

The Thai approached the swaggering victim who had his arms up in a ridiculous parody of a boxer. Suddenly he whacked him with his helmet sending the visor & bits of it flying. The LL looked shocked, did he think he was in for a fair fight? Then he was hit twice more, then again, then again, the LL had no hope of laying a glove on him & he was quickly waking up that he had seriously miscalculated.

In case the Thai was to tire, he now had another 6 or so mates around to take over. The little guy backed off to grin at the buffoon's predicament. I could see this was going to end badly, very badly & I took the chance to leave the scene. The sheer savagery of what was about to unfold left me feeling sick in the stomach. I have seen the after effects of one of these beatings & the LL was going to be lucky if he had eyesight or front teeth by the time this was over.

His only hope would be the intervention of the Tourist Police but I never saw any as I walked home. I looked back to see the LL being circled by the Thais who wouldn't be happy till he was bleeding like a stuck pig lying unconscious on the ground. A harsh lesson but where the hell did he think he was?

And all around were smiling Thai girls who he could have approached instead. Who would choose a punch-up over sex? Strange people those Lager Louts.

Yet another reason to avoid Walking Street. the last few times i wanderd down i also see some real nasty beatings given to tourists. Whether they deservded it i have no idea.

Maybe its a co incidence . I dont know .. probably. Maybe its always been vioilent and i just missed it. I dont live there and cant really comment more.

Shame though that this seems to be on the increase.
