  • What did you like to eat in Vietnam? I mean I loved their meat filled sandwiches. It is like "subway" but much cheaper, I can remember 10000dong in big cities (back in 2006).

    • I ate a Western breakfast almost every day from a large menu where my lb could find things she liked as well. Would usually eat twice a day then maybe a lite snack. I ended up hitting this Kabob stand just about every night, and a couple inexpensive resteruants around Bui Vien area. My ladyboy loved noodle soup, but most of the soup places put beef in it. Enjoyed a few pizzas but had some lame one as well. basically went around to different places until I found places that were good then tried different things off the menu.

At Mui Ne the beach town, the food was even cheaper. I went to this place for Tacos and they were pretty good, and they had a beer special which was Fosters of all things. An import was their cheap special beer. I don't know anyone who drinks the stuff here in Australia, in Brisbane they don't even have slabs of it on the floor and maybe 2 six packs in the cooler. The worst meal I had was at Ben Than market, was not a good experience.

More Red Dunes. they had 3 different areas, Yellow dunes and white dunes too.

        • This is the Red Canyan. Its kind of a mini version of the Grand Canyon and right off the main road going North out of Mui Ne.  all these things were on a trip brochure I picked up at a travel agent. They wanted about $5 USD each to take us to each one, so they package them all together for about $20-$25 each.  I rented a bike for $8 a day and went to all of these to the North in an afternoon making it home just as it got dark, and were able to go at our own pace.

          • the best part of this Red Canyon was very close to the main road, which made it an easy stop.

            • The Dunes, Red Canyan, fishing village, fairy tale falls are all easy to find, you don't need a guide, or have to pay anything when you get there.

                • Nice un commercialised stops along this road, and a good ride. Not much traffic either way.

                  • Fairytale falls is located in Mui Ne, with access about half way down the 5 k strip, its a little bit of walking but well worth it, the only charge is if you park your bike at front or pay a small VN kid as a guide. We took the guide option and the kid who took us was so serious about his freelance job. He was really working hard for a tip, telling us where all the holes where in the river, which you can wade through. the sand formations are brilliant colours, and the patterns of erosion are really cool.

                          • Very nice! Looks like an interesting side trip, getting out of town.

Take care, though. Those shallow canyons look like a flash flood death trap

                            • Ya, don't think you would want to go in wet season, unless you stayed on top, not entering the canyans. Mui Ne is just a few hours north of Sai Gon. My ideal trip would be to take that 30 hour bus trip up to Hanoi, stopping at each of the stops, including Hoi An, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi Phong. A lot of historical places and nice beaches. Then I would fly back out of Hanoi. I was afraid to venture to far North because my flight was out of Sai Gon and so was my ladyboys, so we only went to the first stop Mui Ne, and it turned out to be great.

One of the days while there I went to the south of Mui Ne, towards the city of Phan Thiet. About 5 K down the road is this ridge that overlooks the ocean and Phan thiet. It had these Cham temples on it as well has these military pill boxes that are still there.
