  • Victoms clothes were still on the bodies they dug up and here are some atthe bottom of the Memorial.

I should point out although this is called the Killing Fields, it was not limited to this site.

It is estimated that 1 in every 5 Cambodians were killed or died during the 4 years of terror that the Pol Pot regime was responsable. He was never brought to justice, as he and most of the other KR fled to the Eastern Jungles towards Thailand. Many refugees escaped into Thailand where camps were set up.

Recently some of the S-21 Guards were brought to justice, but the process has been slow. Many cambodians just want to forget about the worst period ever for their country and don't want to talk about it. this is why it had been so hard to proscecute and get witnesses to come forward.

          • Thanks for posting the pics of the human tragedies, BH. It's easy to get complacent living in this world, as most of us live lives of luxury compared to the rest of the population. I'd like to see the killing fields myself some day. I can only assume it'll have the same effect on me that Dachau did when I visited it when I was 18.

            • Thanks for sharing that BH. Maybe some were equally bad, no human was ever worse than Pol Pot. If there is a hell, he has surely been burning in it for the past 11 yrs or so.

"Inflexibility is the worst human failing. You can learn to check impetuosity, overcome fear with confidence and laziness with discipline. But for rigidity of mind, there is no antidote. It carries the seeds of its own destruction." ~ Anton Myrer

              • (vacpw03 @ May 03 2009,08:44) and where the ladyboys ??
We are waiting on you to post some.

I'll give a clue though mate, look back a few pages and your shallow mind will be filled with some sweet sites.

Sorry to bore you with history and trip report. If you could find someone read it for you then you might find that I said I didn't realise they had ladyboy there until I saw Ernestos cambodia trip report.

If you want to see a Cambodian Ladyboy so bad look Vee from Cascades. She is Cambodian, but worked in LOS, a real stunner completely passable.

                • Yes Cambodia is marred with some of the worst human atrocities known. they don't have the world sympathy that the Jewish Lobby has secured for them. The Cambodians have been sufferring ever since, and still do today with landmines still taking their toll.

Next up Viet Nam. Same drill as Bangkok when flying into Saigon. Go up to arrivals and catch a metered taxi. A drive to Bui Vien (A backpackers area and in the center of town) will cost you $5 U.S. versus $15 from the unmarked taxi swindlers down stairs, that are unmetered, and always negotiated.

I stayed on Bui Vien as its a good location, and decent accomadation. The backpackers are not your typical spoiled cunts as they tend to be in other countries. It has guesthouse after Guesthouse on this road, and lots of places to eat. this amputee on the scooter was a regular. If your close he will ruck up to you and hold his hat out to you for some dong. I'm not talking about cock either he wants U.S. dollar or VN dong.

In VN moterbikes are king. they rule the road and you will see them carry everything on them..

                  • They dominate the scene everywhere. The VN dream is owning a bike. At night the men all take their girlfriends to this park, and cuddle. don't know where they fuck, because they all live with their parents so they have bike dates to get away. Helmut law in effect now, and they all wear them. $13 fine I think if don't.

                    • Most of the vendors approach you with a big board full of sunglasses, or fake G.I. war lighters, etc, but this guy has a mobile scale, that also plays music. i never saw anyone use it.

These are all from Bui Vien. There is a little bar that opens around 3 p.m., they pull out miniture tables and chairs, and serve plastic jugs of beer. Its really cheap beer and doesnt taste all that good but its cold. You can bring back your jug and its cheaper for refills. i called it grannys becuase this old woman and a couple other VN worked it each night until about 2 a.m.

It seemed like woman ran most of the buisnesses.

                      • Some remnants left by the U.S. Army on display at the War remmberance museum. Used to be called war crimes musuem but western pressure brought the change. I learned a lot more about the Viet Nam war than I was ever taught in school. I guess they couldn't teach us the truth back then, we wouldn't be able to accept the atrocities we committed.

Viets, and Loations refer to the conflict as the American War. both are very proud of knocking back the Americans and claim victory. However when you see what it has done to their countryside and its people, not sure how you can claim any kind of victory.

                        • Unification palace, which used to be the US embassy. VC tanks rolled in liberating Saigon. These are not the actual tanks but ones just like the two that crashed the gates. One was Russian made and the other was Chinese made. The Viets had basically been at war for 30 years, first against the French, then the U.S. and even tossed back a Chinese advance on Hanoi. They were fighting for their country while the other superpowers were using them in the cold war.

Fought the French who tried to colonise them, and beat them descisively.

The last photo is one of the more famous ones during the war. That girl survived actually. I think her clothes were burned off.

                          • The Ben Than market, told its the best Market in VN. Close to everything and short walk from Bui Vien.

Picture in black and white from early 1900's.

I bought two pair of shorts, and left them outside on the ledge. Went to go eat after and realised left my shorts at Ben Than. So I hired a bike taxi and went back to the crowded market, and unbelievably they were there still. When motorbike dropped me back off at resteruant, he was going around telling everybody how lucky I was as he pointeed to me sitting with my ladyboy.

Don't eat at Ben than market is my tip. great place for bags.
