Ms. Drag Universe 2008

The semi-finals for Ms. Drag Universe 2008 was held at PLAY on the 1st of March. PLAY is a well-known night spot that caters to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transsexual (GLBT) crowd in Singapore.

The event was over 2 evenings. Semis was held on 1st March with the finals scheduled for 29th March. To say the least, it was unneccessary for such a 2 nighter. There were only 10 girls/ guys on parade. Culling 3 off for the finals makes it a rather non-event. Luckily, they culled the 3 most rough looking ones.

Since it was presumably a DRAG event, there were some good-lookers (ladyboys) as well as the rough (cross-dressers, I'm happy that you've got such courage. I would wilt if I thought myself beautiful in all that light and glare.)

Besides the contestants, there was also quite a crowd of good-looking lbs thrown in as spectators, probably as support and cheer-leaders to their friends on stage.

There were 10 girls/ guys. Interestingly, rather than referring to them by their numbers, the organisers have deem fit to confer on them a pseudo-nationality for the evening. So, we had Ms. Indonesia, China, India, Malaysia and Venezuala in the first group of 5, and Ms. Puerto Rico, Thailand, Philippines, USA and Japan in the next.

I only took the pictures of the better-looking ones, well that's hardly honest. I took pictures of most of them but discarded the poor-looking pictures, poor lighting, poor hand-holding, poor phone-camera.

Well only the good-looking ones are left so if you want to check out this event, do visit Uniquely Singapore on the 29th March. The final will be held at PLAY, which is located in 21 Tanjong Pagar road. It's quite a visible location.

You can also tell by now that Ms. China and India are my faves. Puerto Rico is about 3rd and Japan not too far off in my opinion. The crowd favourite is Japan, her name elicits the most cat-calls.

I roughly know that India, Puerto Rico, USA and Japan are local Singaporeans. Malaysia may be a Malaysian-Chinese, but nonetheless still relatively local. Philippines does sound like a Pinoy, heard her/ him speak during the Q&A.

China is most likely from China or Taiwan. She had to ask for a translation of sorts for her Q&A. Venezuala is also probably Singaporean.

Donnnnnny, you spent quite a bit of time in South East Asia, you can't tell us apart yet?

This is pretty cool. I never knew such an event existed in Singapore. Finals on 29 March, eh? Methinks I shall pop over for a look-see. Ms India is my fave. She looks like Liya from vicesisters.

Actually in Asia, believe it or not, S'pore has one of the highest number of public hold events in the LBGT and BDSM community, after Thailand of course.
Most of the partecipants are actually CDs but still very willing to come out and partecipate to events in a number clubs, pubs and bars which are favourable to it.

Further than that, it's S$25 for cover, inclusive of 1 drink. They have Asahi on tap, it is very smooth and dry. Event starts from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
