Seems like horses are more common in the North. I have never seen one horse in Isan, I assume they are useless for rice farming.
Perhaps they cannot adjust to the heat of southern regions.

Here is the Buriram area in late January 2009. It gets extremely dry and you can see the canals are very low.
In rice season the rains and the dams open up to flood the fields. Now the cattle and water buffalo can graze on the dry fields.

Many ladyboys have gone back to their home villages to help their families with the farm during these difficult times.
