How common is HIV among the models on this board?

Well, I have it, but I'm on pretty heavy medication!

I don't know of any girl on this board who has aids or HIV. We had a scare about a year or so ago with one of our girls, but it turned out to be a hormone imbalance.

I did read of a ladyboy that got killed in a motorcycle accident years ago...

Stogie - forget it! A UN-Study pointed out that 17% of the gay men in Bkk are HIV+ and about 2% of all adult people in Thailand are HIV+. A study of the thai military pointed out that nearly 10% of the men recruited are tested positve. And when tested 20% of the female sex-workers are HIV+.

But I am sure no one of us will ever hear about a special girl who is positiv. Remember you are speaking about Thai´s. We speak about persons who quickly would die if they loose their job.

I've seen the 2% figure as the high end in a recent report comparing Russia , Africa,PI and Thailand and I think that it is a widely accepted figure. But I would question the "17% of gays" figure. My understanding is that the distribution between sexes is even, and that the figure is 1% to 2%. Also that injected drugs are the major problem, but that HIV seeps into the general community through sexual networks, though there is no clear link to commercial Sex.

Thailand was the first country in Asia to document the HIV epidemic amongst
intravenous drug users, female sex workers and their clients. Thailand quickly organised
a response to the HIV epidemic, which would otherwise have been considerably worse.

HIV prevalence among female sex workers appears to have peaked in the mid-1990's and
has been slowly declining since, while amongst IDU's, prevalence has remained at
between 20% and 50% both in and outside Bangkok.


Use of condoms to prevent AIDS might be somewhat effective if you or your partner have open sores. But
condoms are overrated for AIDS prevention; they only cut the risk of catching AIDS in half becaues the
AIDS virus is actually smaller than pores on a condom. More important, AIDS is difficult catch, and is only
really contagious in the first few weeks after infection, or during full-blown AIDS (where it's probably going
to show, and you won't have much energy for sex anyway). The greatest risk comes (we now know through
African epidemiological studies) from groups of simultaneous multiple partners. This is because there is
about only a one week period were AIDS is contagious (right after acquisition) then viral levels drop to nil
for years. This is why Africa has 30%-40% infection rates rather than the 1% to 2% seen in Thailand and
the PI. Africa has lots of guys with a wife and 3 to 10 girlfriends and girls with as many boyfriends. If one
person in this extended cohort group is in the contagious phase, it gets passed around the whole group......
not that I condone bareback. Condoms are important for preventing more contagious (but treatable)
ailments. In Thailand and the PI mainly gonorrhea and chlymidia which are increasingly antibiotic resistant
(around 10% of cases in PI and 5% in Thailand, but mayby 25% in Patayya are antibiotic resistant). You
can get rid of the antibiotic resistant strains, it just takes a lot more trouble and time.

A good friend of mine is med. in a Bangkok Hospital and in her freetime she works a lot in hospices for AIDS victims in Bangkok. So when I am in Bkk next time I can invide you to join us.

Hang around in the bars and have sa nook is a good experience in the life. Sitting beside a bed of a 9yo AIDS infected child is another.

I have about 11 gay friends in Bkk. 1 openly speak about his HIV+.
This thread was reason for me to call them and ask how many of their friends died because of HIV+ in the last years. The total number they could recall some hours ago when I had them on the phone was 52.

Adults does not include anyone who is 50 or over!!! What the fuck is that about?

Yeah. Don't worry, be happy.  The epidemiology of AIDS is complex since it is contagious in the 1st month then goes through several years where the viral load is nearly zeros and thus its really not contagious or even noticed by the sufferer.  Once it shows up as so-called "full blown AIDS" the sufferer has probably lost interest in sex, or much of anything else.  Its a nasty disease (the gift that keeps on giving) but if you screw around in Thailand you probably have a much higher chance of dying from SARS (6% mortality) or bird flu (10% mortality).  Behavior that catches the carrier in the first month or  that takes a direct shot of their blood (e.g.needles) is truly risky.  Otherwise your odds are pretty good that you'll die of old age and with a shit eatin' grin on your face
