  • I'm thinking of taking a trip...

Hello, and welcome to my first post

So, I'm thinking of taking a trip to the LoS in May, only I'm a little bit nervous about the whole thing. Now, I should say that I've been to Thailand twice before. Both times I was travelling with friends, so although there was much visiting of bars, and many fines paid   , I unfortunately had no lb experiences. So to the point of my post...

The two times I've been before I was in Phuket, and with friends as previously stated. This time I will be going to Bangkok alone. I was just wondering what advice anyone might have? My first time in Bangkok, first time looking for fun on my own, first time looking for lb's. It's quite daunting I don't mind admitting. But I've got some spare cash, and those gorgeous girls look like so much fun!!

I have another question that I'm slightly nervous about asking, not sure how the board members feel about this type of thing, but what the hell...

Does anyone know what the girls attitude might be to a farang who likes to cross dress? I'm a bit of dabbler myself you see, and quite a looker too, even if I say so myself Now, I'm not looking to go out dressed, but would like a night in dressed with another "girl". Also I'd love to go shopping for some cheap clothes in the company of a ladyboy, would be nice to buy outfits for both of us. So, anyone know about this one> Maybe some of you have broached the subject before? All input gratefully recieved   .

If only the exchange rate was still the same as my last trip, we were getting around Bt130 to the £ in Phuket, after being offered Bt80 in the UK, incredible!!

One thing there has never, ever been an exchange rate of 130baht to the £, now it is about 70 and the best it has ever been is 90 back in January 1998.
As for the other questions, the cross dressing thing I know nothing about but as for Bangkok just book into the Nana , Dynasty or Majestic Suites and go and visit the three ladyboy bars in Nana Plaza and take it from there.

Most of the lb's would love to take up the offer of shopping with you and dont be afraid of trying on the garb in the shops, most Thai's have open minds as long as your buying from there salon, MBK shopping centre is the place,,,no other like it in Asia as far as I'm concerned.
Interesting,,think Talisha and a few of the others from Casanovas might get a kick out of this...
I was in Obsessions, Kings111 and Casanovas last week and found it quite relaxing,,no hard sell at all,,maybe things have changed.

NBrit... I think you'll have no problems having fun in Thailand and bangkok. Get a hotel close to the Nana Plaza area and just hose around the bars.

Went to Obsessions a couple of days ago. Fucking bitches wouldn't leave me alone. I fucking hate those dumps. I feel like saying "FUCK OFF AND LEAVE ME ALONE YOU FUCKING WHORE" but I'm too nice!

I'm getting to the point where I'll point the place out to a new guy on the block from a distance and then say "You're on your own, now. Good luck!" Once you make eye-contact with those fuckers you can kiss your evening goodbye!

Cheers for the input thus far

One thing I forgot to ask, is the curfew on bars having much affect on the nightlife in Bangkok? Part of the fun of visiting Phuket back in '97 and '98 was being able to party till 4am!! Though ones "performance" at night was never very good, always had to have another attempt when we woke up damn that brewer's droop

I've already sussed out hotels thanks to the info on this site/forum. Found cheapo flights direct too. All I need to do now is pluck up the courage to go and book them!! Also have to come up with a cover story for the workmates, friends and family. Hmmm, I hear Goa is nice at this time of year

PS I don't want to get into an argument, but when I was in Phuket in Dec/Jan 97/98 the exchange rate may well have officially been 90baht to the £. But I can assure you the little bureau de change next to my hotel in Karon Beach was offering much more than this for hard cash. Little place on a street corner, just down from the cafe I had breakfast in every day, next to where the tuk tuk drivers hang out and just along from a strip of bars. Don't remember the street names unfortunately.

The exchange rate has been about 70 baht for a pound ever since I came here over 2 years ago. (But if you can get 90 then buy as much as you can, dude!)

When the economy went south a few years back then it may well have been as you say!

Pluck up the balls and get on over here... I'll meet ya for a beer and steer you into the right places! Then I'll bugger off and leave you to it!

The exchange rate during the height of the first crash was at the best 92 to the £ when I was in Pattaya during Jan 1998.
If you did get 130 to the £ which I find incredibly hard to believe ,that you got so much more as even the best backdoor places in Bangkok go only maybe 1 or 2 baht above the official rate and I doubt a tourist trap place like Phuket would offer such an incredible rate.
The Yahoo exchange rate site shows the rates between any currency going back a fair way and is a good reminder to us who were going 10 years ago and were getting 34/35 baht to the pound
