Check Inn Bar 99 is closing

Check Inn Bar 99 is not a ladyboy bar it is one of the first night spots on Sukhumvit and was part of starting the whole Bangkok party scene.
Word is that it is closing and this will be the end of an era. These were the golden days of Bangkok and I have never really been during the heydays as I started going in 2007.

Check Inn 99, which for 59 years has entertained guests in keeping with the changing times, will close its doors forever after being evicted in the name of commercial development.

I have never been in this Bar but I have spent much time around it. There is a Ladyboy Bar in the back called Check In Bar that we all know of.
Strange they decided to name it the same as the famous bar in front. You can get to the ladyboy Check In Bar from Sukhumvit, right beside Check Inn 99 Bar.
Plus having spent much time late at night frequenting the alcho cart bars that popped up out fron.

As I read in the first review on Trip Advisor the person says how it is a great example of the old days and also to avoid the Check In Ladyboy Bar:

PS Avoid venue with the same name in neon illuminations on the side road as you come down from the BTS stairs! It is well dodgy!

According to their Facebook page and website, tonight July 1, 2016 is the last night it is open.
Sorry for the short notice as the party is going on as I write this. It was 1000 baht to get in with free flowing liquor!

Just 2½ years ago CheckInn99 was within hours of being demolished when it was saved by someone who hated to see such a historic venue resigned to Bangkok bar history. This week I spent an evening in CheckInn99 and enjoyed good food, great music and the company of some real characters. I chatted with regulars, was entertained by the owner and was regaled with tales by the loyal staff at CheckInn99, for some of whom it is the only workplace they have known.

The back part of the building is to be demolished to make way for a “Middle Eastern trinket market.” The front part will be renovated to be part of a hotel lobby.

Though the bar has been open continuously since 1957, with Catto-Smith as owner since 2011, the building itself is much older. The section that will be destroyed dates back to 1897, when it was the site of the Bangkok Ice Works. The ice was stored in the cellar which, along with the ancient doors leading downstairs, still stands.

So I am not sure if this affects the Ladyboy Check in Bar as it appears to be in another adjacent building.
The last time I was at Check In Bar the back alley was all demolished which appears to be part of the same structure that Check Inn 99 is in. image_77452.jpg

Sorry all Sunshine Hotel pics got my dick in them. Go here and click: See all 26 photos. No kidding I got lucky by searching for Pattaya Hotels before I first visited in late 2012. Excellent hotel. You can try request by email just before you arrive and ask for Room 3101, 3102, or 3103. It's on the ground floor right next to the downstairs swimming pool (There are 3). So no need going up the elevator. I used to be able to take my dates straight to the room without telling the front desk about my escort, but they got strict. Guard started scolding both of us, but I laughed it off. This is the way Thai guards act. Strict. I don't take it personally as they are doing their jobs. Downside of first floor is lots of mozzies in the dark area. The free breakfast is delicious and varied. You need to go out the glass door to get the eggs and bacon cooking area. Very nice buffet well lit and well staffed by pretty girls. You can take your overnight guests for breakfast since you are already paying for double occupancy. I always pull off the bedsheets and pillow cases every morning so the maid will change them. The room has a queen sized bed, but what I love best about Sunshine Hotel is the recessed ceiling lights are bright. Even with the lights I need more light so will be experimenting with LED lights. I bought several to mount on top of my camera flash shoes so will see if they work. Am still studying Busch's Canon EOS 70D book. Seems a newer model 80D is now out but no new book on it yet. So am looking at this camera and the Canon G7X which is also new and got a silver rating compared to the Sony Rx100 iii's gold one. But G7X doesn't have a female hole for a remote control wire like the Canon G15 which I like to put on a tripod about 5 feet away. With Canon 80D there is a female remote plug-in hole PLUS a Canon brand IR remote control. Girls at the counter are all so nice and polite which reinforces my opinion that Thailand is the BEST. When you choose your check in and out dates the total will be given and then you punch in your credit card info. You can choose to pay now or pay later at about a week before check-in date. You will see the 20% service charge added. This is the tips. I am always happy to pay for it as everybody is making only B400 a day. Breaks my heart. Makes me mad the government is so corrupt and not improving the lot of its citizens. The manager is a sweet young girl, and you will like her. Once I saw her arrive for work at 7 AM, and she is tired. Again I am mad that they don't get paid enough. No way to plan for a future. Slavery is what this is. This hotel has a small restaurant with outdoor tables next door. The food is good. The street in front of the hotel is Soi 8 and is ground zero for bars, girls, and an increasing presence of ladyboys. Same for Soi 7. You can walk uphill and catch a baht bus if Soi 6 is your pleasure. Or you can go downhill and catch the baht bus to Walking Street then walk back leisurely on Beachwalk and see who the loveliest boys and girls are working. Surprised me that they start early at sunset. I've talked to some and they hardly take days off working all the way to 2 AM. I occassionally buy them cans of beer across the street at 7-11. Later in the evening I will visit Pattaya Obsessions. I hear Oui is now Mamasan and her BF is B1000. I would love to hug and kiss her but she tells me her husband doesn't want her to be photographed. Kinda threw me off wondering what husband allows her ladyboy to share her charms with other men. Got lots to learn about Thai culture. She did let me hold her "hand" once, and it is a good size. Hope she stays that way for years to cum. Too many have shrunken because they take too much female hormones. You know if there is a way to tell how big a LB is without touching I would love to hear it. I've held a few Obsessions LB's in exchange for a drink and can find no logical correlation to prettiness, body size or conformation, size of fingers or toes, or anything that will be a sure tipoff that she is a biggie. Makes me appreciate the frustrations women seeking studs must go through. They need to rely on gossip. As I've said before I like to walk into a bar like Nana's Obsessions, take a seat, hold one arm above my head, and grab my forearm with my other hand. Then 3 or 4 LB's will step forward while the others move backwards. Look for Ronnie and Goy. Another way to find out is ask the TS waitresses and give them a tip. They know. Finally when you check into Sunshine Hotel you will need to pay B1000 for a hotel key card. I usually ask for another so my room stays air-conditioned all day long, and I don't return to a hot room. Try asking for a next bigger room. Doesn't hurt to try, and you might just get one. When your vacation is finished just visit the taxi kiosk right next to the 7-11 entrance across the street a week before and set up an appointment for a taxi to return you to Suvarnbhumi Airport which takes 1.5 hours. The girl has fair prices. She also handles reservations and pickup van for the Colosseum Ladyboy Show which is fairly new and good. The next time I see that show I will not take pics as I miss watching too much. Every day I am in Ladyboy Land I can never stop being in awe of such beauty. I should have vacationed here when I graduated from high school! To all you guys who came here before me I consider you the luckiest dudes in the world.

Check Inn 99 has relocated to Sukhumvit Soi 11, just above Zak's, which is about 1/2 way down Soi 11. As reported by "Stickboy" Sept. 7/16

Check Inn 99 are on the move once again after spending the past 7 weeks on Sukhumvit Soi 24 in Admiral’s Bar and are setting up shop in the area above Zaks on Soi 11.

All the CI99 team are already on the tools readying the space for “Jazz on Sukhumvit” this Sunday afternoon from 2-6pm with the popular Music Of The Heart band taking to the stage for their Soi 11 debut on Monday night.

The owner tells me there are no more removals planned anytime soon as this new location is a permanent deal.

Interesting how in Thailand a Bar can be more of living concept that can recreate itself at any location.

In other places only large chains can upgrade their establishments and not lose customers but if smaller bars or restaurants move or upgrade it is often the kiss of death.

In Thailand the same named bar can move all over, from a store front to an inside office type space or above another business and still keep clientele.

Well, I am not sure about any location - I get the feeling it would only keep it's customers if it was in the general area of the old one. So if they moved to Patpong, I don't think most of their customers would have followed.

However, yes, it is quite interesting how this works in Thailand - a big different than other countries.
