Just like Soi8dave, I had a 'slipped off' condom experience, and, on another occasion, a burst condom. (NOTE - always expell air from the bubble at the tip of the condom). These 2 incidents just about spoiled my holidays. (vague anxiety at back of the mind).

Stogie is correct. Catching AIDS is fairly difficult especiallyfor the 'giver' not so difficult for the 'receiver'. I read somewhere the odds of transmission are about 1 in a 1,000 for a man having sex with an infected woman. 1 in a 100 for a woman having sex with an infected man. However, Stogie is also correct to say the other nasty infections must be considered also.

Regarding tests - the incubation period is 3 months as I understand it.

It is worth remembering, as I was once told by a professional AIDS counseller, a professional sex worker, who always takes 100% care, is safer than a casual pick-up in a bar who is careless.

To borrow from BB - lets be careful out there!

    cheers

Ugly subject, but I'll chime in.

In my experience, yes I shouldn't, but sometimes have.

Bareback sex is undoubtedly several zillion times better than with a condom, most of the time. And I'm talking about her being bare-backed. Not me. When, on the rare occasion that I feel like some pain and I take it, she is DEFINITELY wearing a condom. The receiver is in the much riskier position.

Incubation period: I've read a bit about this, and what I've come away with is this: 3-months, the standard period they tell you the test is good for, means that within 3-months 99% of infections will show up on the Elisa test. Check my numbers on the following, because I know they're not exact, but it's something like at 2-months, 60% of infections will show up, and at 1-month ... well, you get the picture.

At times where the Chang and/or 100 Pipers has gotten the best of me, or when as Jon has put it, there's this unbelievable lovely young creature before you (okay I'm paraphrasing) and she's ready for it - and you just go. Plus the occasional times I've had condom breakages or slip-offs. In these (fairly rare) slip-ups, I've tried to get the girl to go with me the next day for an HIV-test. Whether she'll actually do it tells you something as well.

And so, in this type of scenario, and when actually pre-emptively testing my honeys-to-be, and often their friends that tag along (I'm paying for the tests of course), which I've done quite a few times, I have not yet come upon a time where any of us have tested positive. That may be slightly reassuring.

NOTE: Anyone who takes anything I'm saying as a license to go bareback is an arse.

So, you may say, why bother if you've already fucked-up? And my answer is two-fold:

      1) If it turns out that she's +, you can immediately seek a massive dose of anti-virals that MAY prevent you from contracting it.

      2) If it turns out that neither of you show +, you can at least relax A LITTLE and get re-tested in 3 months. Buys you a little piece of mind.

Now, and again I reiterate my note above about being an arse, if you do come down with the dreaded infection, luckily at this stage of the game, it's not necessarily a death sentence.

More like a major life-changing-pain in the ass better make sure you can afford to pay for the huge daily doses of anti-virals you'll need to take for the rest of your life (that will probably make you feel like shit most of the time) and you basically can't fuck anyone else ever again in good conscience.

But not necessarily a death sentence. From what we understand at this point.

But HIV is apparently a fast-mutating complex virus, and there are already several significantly different strains floating around.

A DOCTOR TOLD ME THIS: When I admitted going with a prostitute in Chile (with jimmy-cap in place), she advised that I pee immediately after sex. As we've discussed, the top is somewhat less likely to catch the infection. But clearing out the pipes is apparently a really good idea, and may just make you that much safer.

As for the other nasties you can pick-up, I unfortunately must admit I've had one or two experiences along these lines. When white puss is oozing out your member, it really makes you think. It's the nastiest thing possible. Luckily antiobiotics will clear it right up. What I'm talking about here is Gonorrhea.

Probably less dangerous, but less easy to notice, is Chlamydia. I'm not sure the potential health effects of this for men (can cause infertility in women), but apparently causes minor irriation on peeing. So if you notice that, and it's apparently common and subtle in its effects, see a doc. Again a dose of antibiotics will clear you up.

So I for one am trying to be a good boy. Still holding out hope for an exclusive arrangement with someone who is truly sexy (for more than one night or two), smart as a whip, and a blast to be with. And who'll maybe let me butterfly once in a while, as long as I'm careful

In the meantime, I'm moving more and more toward just kissing, sucking, enjoying and whacking off. When I'm really on the horn, and don't mind putting up with the condom, then that's another story.

Good question.  I went with Cat/Pop a few months ago and saw quite a lot of her.  On one admittedly alcohol fueled session i went bareback and have been worried ever since. I suppose its more because she was quite happy to let me which is a concern - why would she risk it unless she was positive?  On another note does anyone have experience with her - she is fantastic - good fun, good English, great body.  Not sure ifshe's spinning m a line but she actually appears to like me (i'm not so naive but...) - sends me e-mails, texts etc.  Of course i'll be back this month so maybe she's staking her claim........
My first post by the way.  Any info would be appreciated.

Another good tip, if like me you are intending to fuck ladyboys, is to buy some strong condoms at home. The standard Thai ones are no good in my opinion even for sex with generic girls.

Im not perfect and at here i have slipped up a few times & your rite you worry like hell u get tested and then your alrite.... But in thailand ill drink from morning till night then till the morning again. No matter how pissed i get and no matter how rampant it gets the 1st thing, the thing at the forefront of my mind is im about to sleep with a prostitute...How could i not wear a condom?? I understand a point that was made earlier about its safer to shag a careful prostitute bareback than a casual bird pissed out of her box from a club. But still its there...Im with a naughty girl. Ill b honest since i discovered ladyboys in thailand wen i leave my hotel i will more than likely have a bottle of Lub, Strong condoms and baby wipes on me. I respect all u guys honesty but i 4 1 am yet to slip up..im not suggesting than i wont im just saying i havent yet....lol...ill b back there next month and ill keep u posted.....

Riding a ladyboy asshole bareback in any scenario is INSANE. You can give all the excuses you like but the HIV virus will punish you all equally regardless of your slip ups !

Please please guys try to think and stop yourselves despite the temptations !!! I would not wish that fate on anyone period !

Go see Kaputsi Sarcoma or viral encephalopathy patients in hospices - No way for anyone to die !

Use of condoms to prevent AIDS might be somewhat effective if you or your partner have open sores. But condoms are overrated for AIDS prevention; they only cut the risk of catching AIDS in half becaues the AIDS virus is actually smaller than pores on a condom.  More important, AIDS is difficult catch, and is only really contagious in the first few weeks after infection, or during full-blown AIDS (where it's probably going to show, and you won't have much energy for sex anyway). The greatest risk comes (we now know through African epidemiological studies) from groups of simultaneous multiple partners. This is because there is about only a one week period were AIDS  is contagious  (right after acquisition) then viral levels drop to nil for years.  This is why Africa has 30%-40% infection rates rather than the 1% to 2% seen in Thailand and the PI. Africa has lots of guys with a wife and 3 to 10 girlfriends and girls with as many boyfriends.  If one person in this extended cohort group is in the contagious phase, it gets passed around the whole group

... not that I condone bareback. Condoms are important for preventing more contagious (but treatable) ailments. In Thailand and the PI mainly gonorrhea and chlymidia which are increasingly antibiotic resistant (around 10% of cases in PI and 5% in Thailand, but mayby 25% in Patayya are antibiotic resistant). You can get rid of the antibiotic resistant strains, it just takes a lot more trouble and time.
