  • They WANT us out!

I have heard or read somewhere that much of what has been happening in Thailand lately is actually directed  at  a lot of guys just like us, in an effort to keep guys like us out of the country.   nothing  demeaning here because I am certainly included in this  classification,  but they want all  sex tourists and  cheap charlies to stay out of there and this is  one way to do it.    they also have some law  which says that all  farangs will have to have a certain amount of cash in the bank to be allowed to stay there, and have to be making  enough per month, etc.....guys like stogie and his friends are fucked, frankly.

I also saw another law  which blew my mind recently......all   people  under  18 years of age must be in the house by 10PM now or be with a parent!  imagine how that would fly in the states or any other free western country?  how the hell is that fair to a 17-year old  who wants to  go over a friends house on a   friday night and watch MTV and talk about boys?  or for a  16-year old  to go to the theatre for a  9-o'clock movie?   unbelievable.

OK...i won't be mean about it like the last few weeks.....but it really IS getting harder to like that place these days when you see and hear about laws like this and the new 'social order' campaign, which only seems in place to fuck up what was once a great thing.

Taksin has doubled, tripled, quadupled, quintupled, sextupled,
settupled, and even OCTTUPLED the various visa, non-immigrant, retirement, and residency fees that foreigners must pay to visit or stay in Thailand.
I think he is trying to tell us something..........

        Angelo,
        Your right about that.
When I got my non-immigrant O multi entry visa I was told that I was lucky because I only paid $40.00..Because in two days ( in August ) the fee would be $120.00 !
But if I wanted to buy the million baht elite card I can get it for free !

Absolutely ridiculous! The "land of freedom" is becoming a Taliban-state overnight. Maybe an interesting next target for the joint forces. Free Thai bar-girls!...hahaha
As I said before: We aint seen nothing yet!!!

Laws come and go. The willingness to enforce them also goes through cycles. I'm not really too concerned about all these news stories.

I go to the border every 30 days to get stamped back in as a tourist. I've never had a problem. Malaysia, Lao, Cambodia... not ever a problem.

Now; I have heard stories, mind. And I have seen some things... but everyone of the negative stories I hear come from useless beatniks and idiots. I have actually seen long haired people lining up to get their passports stamped at the border with beer can and cigarette in hand! What the fuck is that about? What kind of respect does that show? Then they whine like girls because their rights are messed with!

People who get into trouble with authorities in my experience ALWAYS deserving of their respective plights...

In over two years I have NEVER been asked to show my ID even... (except on the bus at border patrols where everyone is asked to show ID. And then mine is largely ignored. They are NOT looking to kick types like me out of the country. At least that isn't my experience.

What happens down the road, of course, I can't say.

Also these new rules that we are complaining about are not AIMED at farangs. The whole country is being TALIBANed, not just the hot spot that you and I like!

The worst thing about all of this is the lack of forthought and public awareness of the actual rules and aims of the new legislation...

I for one will be happy to see the kids off the streets after 10 o clock. That is one good move. (By the way, again we are missing the point here: The cops aren't locking up little Nok on her way home from work from the night shift at MacDonalds. In Thailand the police don't enforce the law just because it is the law. This ain't Europe or America. The law here is used as a tool to enforce social order, not as a bible to make cops feel special.

I'll also add that I can't believe anyone on this board is going to ever have a problem drinking till dawn (if that's what you want to do!) The last place I would want to get drunk and stay up all night in is a dangerous city like Bangkok!

Much better to find a small local where they fall asleep on their bar towels waiting for you to decide to leave! (And these places are simply everywhere..)

Also you can carry beer around in the street and/or sit outside a Kwiki-Mart and get wasted on the cheap 24 hours a day 7 days a week if you like! Can you do that where YOU come from? I can't.

One more story: Where I live in SamutPrakan in South bangkok the only public place with satellite TV is a gas station on the main road. Every Saturday about 70-80 people drive or walk in, sit or stand around a small 21" TV, watch football for about 4/5 hour and drink what they like without any hassle. (Yes I did say this was a GAS STSATION where people are smoking just a few yards from the pumps...

Big bottle of Chang is 40 Baht and a bag of Ice is 6 Baht... This beer is strong and so you can watch live footy in peace for the whole evening for about 3 or 4 bucks! Canyou do that where YOU come from? I can't.

                              Hi Guys

Sorry Jon but I just don€™t agree with your assessment. And the place you read and people you heard it imho from have got it wrong too. I agree entirely with what stoogie says. This law does not affect the P4P at all. As I maintained in all my posts about this subject sex tourism will not be affected. It affects us in so much as we like to combine sanuk with P4P. My protest is that this law is so draconian, very reactionary and very un Thai. This law is directed at Thailand not us. The Thais will feel this much more than we ever will. If it was directed at us all they have to do is a crackdown like they did in Cuba.

Also remember Paptong is in the 3 zones. Paptong is a dominant Farang area. Why not exclude Paptong as well? I think we are looking at this from an LB perspective because the 3 better bars are in Nana and we are all crying foul. Maybe more bars will open up in Paptong. Who knows it may get better. Apparently drinks and barfines are cheaper there.

I remember Angelo once gave an account of the P4P areas during the Vietnam war and stated Paptong was not the main area as was believed. But came later. Maybe the same will happen again and everything maybe redirected within the zones.

Sorry to hear though about your Kao Saon Rd. I too like to stay up late when in Thailand and did not enjoy the bars closing at 2.00am in Phuket. Now come March 1st it€™s 1am. I will be there before and after March the 1st so it will be interesting to see what happens.

On a side note, off the other boards and lists I take a look at it seems to me the most vehment protest comes from this forum. The others don€™t seem as pissed off as much as us. Don€™t get me wrong they don€™t like it but generally take the attitude they will just move on and what happens happens. So what do you think is it because of the 3 Nana bars or us guys like to enjoy ourselves more? Just think loudly.

                              Regards,
