Sorry to bother you guys but I will be coming to Bangkok on the 23rd December for 1 night. I have read that the Election is held that day, does it mean that Nana Plaza and/or Guess Bar will be closed that night? Sorry for the stupid question

from memory the last two times i was in town when some kind of election was held the bars were closed.
The Narai Hotel bar actually stopped selling booze for three nights.
The last time it effected me......
KC3 stayed open but sold soft drinks only. Nana closed down completely.
can someone confirm that the Election is 100% percent being held that day as this would fuck my plans up as well. the last time i read the BKK post it was tentative.

did someone say cumming erection???
there is a slight chance that the elections could be postponed alltogether. if PPP looks a chance to win, relatively democratically (despite alleged vote buying), the military rule would be in a wierd spot... so they could postpone untill they are prepared for any outcome..

The date is set, only a 5% chance of coup.
They did not ban booze for the referendum.
during Thaksin times they banned boozed so his supporters would be sober and vote, this time around the powers that be would probably like those folks to stay drunk, so maybe they won't go dry.

Reading from other forums, its not looking good for 22/23/24 december, 22nd places closed to allow people to travel home ,23rd to vote, and now ive heard they have said the 24th is being allowed an extra days holiday as a bonus.
Before elections always affected 2 days, how this will affect the bars im only hoping but in the past when ive been in Pattaya which is not as strict in my view most places dont sell alcohol.
So merry christmas everyone

The bars will be closed on the day before the election, so the 22nd and on the 23rd, they are supposed to be closed but some can get away with opening at 6pm. For an election, the rule is heavily enforced in any area - the liklihood of Nana being open is very small. You may find some out the way back street places still open but they will have zero atmosphere as no lights, music etc and everyone on tenderhooks if the police come round. In Lumpini, which is where Nana is located, they are stricter than most police districts in BKK and especially around Nana.
So the prognosis is not good for the 22nd and marginal for the 23rd.
Cheers

I would personally AVOID completely passing through BKK these DAYS.... Some days before and CERTAINLY many days after the situation will be very liquid...
Let's hope the new governement gives LBs rights... change IDs, recognisition of LB as the third sex etc.
