When I used adjectives such as "lieing, deceitful, theiving" on a very early post, I was not being cynical, but merely stating a fact. This brought a roar from the crowd, with cries of "chill out Cynic" and the like. I mentioned one particular ladyboy in Bangkok as being completely mercenary, and incurred the wrath of god. "I've known this ladyboy for ages, and she's even worked for the site, and one of the sweetest people I have known" Obviously not quite a sweet as you first thought, and must have been knocking around with some very "grubby" Thai men. Seems as though she has contracted something rather terminal, and that, you don't get from western tourists.
Yes still cynical, but as I said, two decades in Thailand will do that to a person.

Well spoken and completely right on target. Like the saying goes "Fool me once, shame on thee, fool me twice and shame on me." I admit here publicily that I have been guilty of outright stupidity in the past with my dealings with ladyboys. It seemed that I needed to be hit on head with a 2X4 before I finally learned my lesson. Now I am just using them for my pleasure as they use us for their monetary needs. I come to Thailand and have taken your advice and just wing it, the only the way to fly in my opinion. I have seen the light brothers and I urge all those who read Jons rants to give serious consideration to his advice. He knows of what he speaks.

  yes,   we appreciate  your honesty and after  20 years [ i have no idea how you do that]  you certainly speak from experience.  it's  not that  I never agreed with your thoughts before, it's just that, as moderator of this forum, i have to come across as a nice guy to everyone and I have had to bite my tongue on a lot of things these last 2 years, but not anymore.    i am speaking my mind now and let the  chips fall as they may;  what i have seen and heard since i returned on january  15 has made me really hardened and  I will  say what is the despite the fact it may upset some people and some ladyboys.

One more comment I'd like to make in response to all the cynical commentary about the Thai ladyboys ....

You can travel the world looking up bar girls; but I don't think that you are ever going to find cuter, more exciting, and friendlier companions than Thai ladyboys.  I love 'em.  Sure, those who work in bars aren't going to be everything they appear ... but come on ... what did you expect.

The difference is plain and simple my dear Donald, not everybody has a nasty streak in them, there is always some good, and in Nut's case your obvious distain and contempt for all "professionals" must have been blatently transparent, and you were treated accordingly.

As for......

When you have lived in SE Asia for twenty five years, and Thailand for twenty of those, come back and I'll talk to you as an equal.
That's the problem with the youth of today, they think they've achieved greatness if they've travelled a bit, and read the book. My dear Don, just let's agree to disagree, and leave it at that, and I promise not to be rude to any more of your posts!
If you have been coming here for twenty years, and I would imagine that you first came as a tourist in your late teens, which would place you around forty. Which would mean that when everybody was leaving Vietnam in '73 you were still at primary school? Pity that, might have broardened the mind.

Arrive bkk 8.10pm 26th,, not sure if we are heading straight down to ptty that night or not,,figure if we leave from airport should be at limmatqui by 11pm and avoid paying outrageous prices in bkk..
Will leave 2/3 days in bkk on our way back around 4/5th march..
Just paid thai airways $357 return from Bali,,,,direct...
