What is a mamasan?

Whats is a mamasan really? I read about them but can´t really figure out their role. I ´ve seen them att the entrance, but never talked to one. What do they do except for make sure guys pay the drinks or barfine and maybe hold back too agressive lb´s in Casanova.
I read in one post that all girls in Casanova were afraid of mamasan there. Why? Is the mamasan (in general) a lb or gg? Old? And how do they become mamasan?
The have them in GG bars too? Are they getting a a share of the money, like a pimp?

In its simplest form - basically they are the staff manager. However often bar staff do not report to the mamasan but the service staff do as do the hostess staff.

A mamasan is the bar owner's representative 'on site'.

They are there to see that the customers are kept happy and thus spending money.
They also act as a sort of sargeant major/agony aunt to the girls.
To say the girls are afraid of them in most cases would be completely wrong.
The best mamasans rule by personality rather than threats/violence.

Best thing you can do is make friends with the Mamasang... this way you can get what you want....  

Last year I had this new camera I wanted to test out... I bought the Mamasang a few drinks... got her looped on Whisky and then it was ok to try out my new camera... did the same in OB's!

Never try to take photo in the clubs unless you truly have the ok of the Mamasang.

The mamasan at Casanova is one of the best looking LB's in the dump, but she is sweet for money and mean as hell if you drink too slow and just hang out. You are supposed to select an amazon and bar fine her and make the bar rich. When they all line up in front of you, I usually take the mamasan(or rather did)and buy her a drink. She was all over me, until she got the idea that I had a limit on spending, then she wisked off with a sour face.

i agree with bam keep mamasang sweet an the nite is tops .even in the gg bars if your after fun , also another one to keep on side is ..... chamber maid .... for those extra things you might just need .. like clean towels when you get up as she is off home ..... or extra loo paper, last appartment i was in i used to bring in a meal for chamber maid for bout 30bht off street traders .if i needed anything i got it .................

Many times she is the ugliest LB in Thailand, but not always.

The scam went on for 10 years at least and she must have made a fortune. The K3 fiddling was at its peak around 5-6 years ago when the miserable GG cashier was feathering her nest as well as the Mamasan. In the end the cashier got pushed but i think the old Mamasan is still there... as miserable as hell....

If you sat at the first table on the right as you walk in you were a target... that table always got hit with a padded bill....nothing like the good ol days!...

Yes in my early days I used to think the mamasan was my friend and would help me have a good night by keeping the girls at bay until I wanted one and by telling me which ones fitted my criteria.

How wrong I was. They are only there to make you spend as much as possible in their bar. I no longer by them drinks and also hardly even talk to them any more.
