I am sure receiving is fine but what about giving? Sucking a condom cannot possibly be any fun but what are the real risks of sucking without? Any thoughts?

Obviously if your partner has some hideous plague there will always be a risk or probable risk of you getting contaminated with the same..Its the percentage chance that matters and what type of biological terror the partner is inflicted with..

Oral sex is fantastic, but have only once insisted on condoms myself (can't remember why - and the LB in question & I still laugh about it ..)  

I think I read there are no firm stats - cos not many people confine themselves to oral - but a small chance exists of all the major dreads.   I'm no exspurt, but I would think herpes is a major threat.   I had a cold sore this week, so didnt BJ - but how many sex workers would take that sort of care?

Although it's not scientific, I generally go with my instincts about how close I get to a sex partner. I tend to choose people who look clean, young and well presented and not the halloween leftovers stalking the streets. Even then her demeanor and actions, once chosen, go a long way to determining how close we get.
