This is the reason I won't visit Thailand.  I don't care for the Thai my-shit-don't-stink mentality.  It seems like a Thai way-of-life, which has been reinforced by many things I've read and Thais I know here in farangland.

The majority of asia thinks that way, & they don't criticise there own, as someone else has eluded to about the Chinese. I have visited & worked in many countrys in asia, farangs are cash cows, live with it & enjoy the place, yes you are getting scammed, & if you think you aren't in other holiday destinations your dreaming! The LOS is about as safe & good as it gets as an alround package.

If you think not, then book your holiday in the Carrabean, try strolling down the road at 0200hrs with a local girl half your age on your arm. Been there done that! Won't be going again. Plus its a destination for western women to indulge in very well hung men of colour. I don't need to watch that hypocracy & spectical while I am on holiday thanks.

Then theres South America, Brazil, Venuzuela, Argentina Dom Rep etc been there done that too, same deal as the Carrabean, its not for the faint hearted & inexperienced. But i will be going back.....

Of course all of the above is irrelavant if you are a member of the niave package tour, tourist horde & gawping masses.

Believe me it does not get much better than the LOS for an alround package, LB's, GG's, price, food, hotel quality, service quality, friendly people, safety. But please stay away, go to the Carrabean or South America, or just stay home

Not sure wher eyou got that impression, they pretty much run the government and business and it's been that way for many, many years. They can do it because they have, for many years, not been considered a seperate group to the Thais. Laws prevented Chinese men brining in their wives so they married local Thais hence the majority of true Bangkokians all having some percentage of Chinese blood. The Chinese (as many of them do consider themselves Chinese as mentioned by a previous contributer) havr a very good time in Thailand, unlike other parts of SE Asia in the past where they remained a sepeeate ethnic group.

The Thai Chinese are not a new phenomenon. Even the King is part Chinese. The difference between Thailand and other countries in southeast asia is that the Thais demanded that the Chinese take Thai names, learn the language and send their children to Thai schools. In other words, the Chinese in Thailand are more integrated into the society than in other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The result is less ethnic strife.

OK, I point out some ugliness here. Yes, people look at at your color, facial structures, whatever. This is not right, but loosing faith in "things can one day be right" is much worse. Plus, thousands of years of hstory can not be undone in just couple decades of tourism. Taksin the great was half Teochew, Taksin the expelled is 100% Hakka . Until Obama get elected president (and not just because the American people rebounding from a total failure), the rant against Chinese people's slightly better status in Thailand just don't make sense to me....

Relating to the statement that Chinese have had a hard time in Thailand .
This is a complete myth as the Chinese have had a 10% (large ) minority for the last few hundred years at least . One of the principal reasons the Thai's changed the name of the country from Siam to Thailand ,was to incorporate and satisfy these so called minorities .

As a large minority ,the Chinese have for many years held a strong political and social weight and have used their considerable numbers to influence the political spectrum . By no means have they been abused or mistreated . Now if your talking about Laos ,that's another story !

oh yes buy the way im an australian.and white, as you have played the race card.(round eyed gai jin) i will now point out some uglyness myself.
I have travelled extensively in asia and have found one thing common to most countrys. chinese bribe estabish big business, pay the locals shit and treat them like dirt. 3 years ago i was in indonesia where a girl i know there(working in taman angrek shopping and apartment enclave) told me she had worked for 3 months for her chinese boss and had still not been paid.
You wonder why countrys like indonesia have riots which usually target chinese business, because??? because they the chinese exploit the locals and use them to do there dirty work.and pay then shit to do it. on the other hand they have a harder time in establishing big monopoly business in the west where we were less yes less corrupt.not sure now on the coruption??
thailand is more integrated but most business is still owned and run by chinese . have a look at your own people who emigrat all over the world for one reason, economics . by asking what "white here see me more or a ga gi" you are being racist. a peson should never be refered to by the colour of the skin just as you disslike being called yellow and blacks dont like being called niggers even if they can call them selfs that name.
