  • AsianTS forum...

One email and I'd ignore it. Two emails and a PM then I sit up straight and pay attention...

Another websites' forum is offering points per post and rewarding them with prizes which include membership. (That would seem to indicate to me that most of the readers there are not members, but that's by the by.) This is a similar scheme to supermarket loyalty programs.

I'm not sure of the benefits this brings to the forum, and after a few weeks of meaningless posts and automatic gainsaying replies they'll probably abandon it, but I wish them all luck as promotions are sometimes a good way of getting new business.

We won't be doing anything similar here.

Also - the same forum and some others also have decided that you should have titles attatched to your name depending on the amount of posts you have. A lot of forums do this, but we won't be.

You know the sort of thing... "Ladyboy Noobee" if you have just joined the site or "Ladyboy Expert" if you post more than a zillion times.

I can't see the point of these degrading and rather offensive tags so we won't be doing anything similar.

Also - on the AsianTS forum you are required to register before you can read the board. If you can't be bothered to register to read the forum I don't think you should have all this great information! But that's just me... maybe I'm wrong.

We also clamp down very hard on spam, sales pitches and repetitive posts. If you are guilty of using our forum for these practices then you won't feel at home here for long! There are other forums where you can ask for directions to The Guess Bar or ask where the best place for a daytime fuck are... ours is not one of them.

Each site and message board has it's own way of doing things and ours isn't for everyone. There's room on the internet for everyone and you can be sure that this messageboard won't be changing anything anytime soon...

    Your thoughts are welcome...

I actually agree with all of the above. As you said giving prizes for the most posts is going to attract people to post and reply when thet really have nothing of value to add.

As far as titles go I think we can tell based on our own experiences as to who might be worth listening to and who are just full of dribble. So I believe they are not needed.

Having to register is fair enough in my opion as your rightly pointed out if you are too lazy to do this then you do not deserve acces to all this fantastic wealth of information.

      Hi Stogie,

As one of only three moderators on the above mentioned forum, I certainly have my concerns about the impact this "loyalty / rewards program" will have on both the number and quality of posts.

Its early days, and only time will tell if its genius marketing or otherwise.

My initial concern is the practical aspect of managing / moderating all the posts it may cause.

Think I'll have to quit my day job and moderate full time !

      Cheers

ATS has the most painless registration on the net.

        10 seconds?

And no going back to your email to verify etc.

Ha ha! Yes, well... seriously - this will have an impact on your moderators of course. It's a lot to ask a volunteer to keep tabs on every thread of every forum.

Yes - it was about your forum that I had received two emails from.

The problem with asking people to post for the sake of it is that it devalues and dilutes the 'impact posters' who really DO have good information, experiences and stories to share.

Of course we all like to add our own nonsense posts and replies from time to time, but if our posts are graded on what is worth points or not then we may be reluctant to do so.

But like I say - there's room for everyone and your forum has a healthy following already.

I hope that this promotion achieves what it sets out to and good luck.

          SB

As a side note... I can't register at the other forums because my emails are in use from when I registered before and I can't remember my passwords or usernames, etc! Oh well!

sorry for your loss stogie, but i can safely guarantee there are still one or two email addresses available with which you could register over there if you so chose.

i'll check again but i'm pretty sure that

              [email protected] m

              is still available.

meanwhile this forum still rocks. though it'll rock harder once i get my "nfl champion of ats" baseball cap at the big ceremony in july.

... not to mention PICTURES ... Go Billy69

There is all sort of bad (or at least unfair or undesirable) behavior that this might promote:

posting the same info to several sites
posting the minimal publishable unit ...
                  ... for
                  ....example
                  .....posting
                  ...one
                  ... word
                  .... per
                  ... entry
                  plagiarizing material from other sites
asking silly questions (and then giving silly answers)
posting exclamations (Oh! ... unless you mean the LB)

That said, I've seen plenty of sites that use these point systems, and it doesn't seem to result in that much abuse, because the other members more or less police silly posts
(for example by telling posters to use the search function)

... I would like to see some improvements in the search function here though (different topic) ... try typing 'Pop' into the search engine and see what it gets you ... and threads with 40 pages (Billy's for example) require you to go through each page rather than landing you at the relevant page.

Why do I need a "prize" or "bonus points" for posting, I am here because i want to be, not because i get a free  towel with every 50ltrs.

Keep it as it is SB.

There is often an initial spate of BS posts, but this usually settles down and the other Members help to keep things in perspective.

I hope it works out for you koykaeng as Mod work is unpaid and often un(der)appreciated

Ditto on the Search (mal)function. It's particularly annoying to search a Member's posts and get pages of threads to wade through rather than the individual posts themselves. I'd hate to be looking for one in Billy69's threads

And did someone say something about exclamations ? ! What about Members!
