Nana is back to 1am closing

Stopped by Nana last night at 1am only to find everyone streaming out and Big Dogs shutters down. At this point, Jay decides to tell us, she knew this would be the case as in her words "new police chief hate prostitute and bars cannot open late" - shame she had not told us that before we left Guess but mai pen rai.

No idea how long this is going to be going on for but better to be forewarned as they say.

    Cheers

01:00 has been the official closing time for at least the last 12 months. If you wanted to stay open 01:00 - 02:00 you had to pay the local constabulary. The fees vary based on the size of the establishment, and are surprisingly paltry. 3,000 ~ 5,000 THB has recently bought such a favor for a calendar month for a typical go-go. I'll admit I haven't stayed up to date on the current situation but assume some bars have chosen not to pay, maybe as February is a short month? Most bars have been paying the "late opening fee" as they make enough in alcohol sales to cover it, and the emplyees are slave labor (not subject to exisitng labor laws) anyway.

Lumpini got a new Col. ~ 9 months ago, and the rumor was he paid a huge sum to secure the position. I'm surprised to hear there is another new Col. already, but as I've said I haven't stayed up on this subject. I guess it could be tied to putting those more loyal to the ruling junta in strategic positions, or removing those with questionable loyalty? I doubt it's some part of an attempt to clamp down on the entertainment industry? That would smack of organization and Thailand is currently anything but organized as everyone is grabbing power in a massive free-for-all.

1 AM seems reasonable to me.

1-2pm!!! omg, where's this gonna end

i think this 1-2am is fuckin hilarious. why on earth close so early if it wasn't for that the politicians had empathy with whores, for the late hours they have to work?
wouldnt it better to have later openings so the obscenity would be hidden from the public, like 11pm-5am? t.i.t

so the obscenity would be hidden from the public...
            What 'public'?

Thais don't go anywhere near Nana Plaza unless they have some interest in extracting money from us lot. Regular Thais don't give two hoots about Nana Plaza either and it's not Joe Public that control the opening hours!

As for the cops having sympathy with the girls working so hard... well. you may have a point. Often is the time when I'll walk past a cluster of heavily armed cops and one will say to the other... "You know, I don't think I've seen Cherry have a day off for weeks, that poor girl!" and the other will reply "It's a shame and it's way past her bedtime... Tell ya what... let's do them all a favour and close the place down. They'll love us for it!"

Folks - opinions posted on this board are often fuelled by empty headed ignorance, so take them with a pinch of salt... and that includes my own ravings!

there are alot of non-sextourists in the area too. in landmark for instance, which is one of the closest neighbours to nep.

1am or 2am. it really doesnt matter does it?

If you are still wanting to go out there are plenty of places open, or you could head back.

                Nothing really changes?

Yeah i heard that most of the top police postions have been changed to get away from the old regime and in with the new. Nothing ever changes though long term they will still take the cash !!

Wandered by last night a little after 1 pm...and there was plently of talent around...so you just visit the parade an hour early...Think of all the drink money you'll save to spend on a girl...

Unfortunately I had a girl in tow or she had me in tow...so we raced through...But KL is right...what does it matter...

Apparently a lot of the Sukhumvit bars have disappeared.

                        Any updates on this, Guys?

Business as usual again last night/this morning...I had my last drink in Obsession at around 1.45am and the place was still rocking.

Most if not all of the street bars have gone. Differing views as to why this has happened. Some feel its because in the last week there has been a big ASEAN ministers meeting being held at the Imperial Queens Park hotel on Suk Soi 22, others say its the new police chief, others have no idea why. They will probably be back at some point, but most of the obvious 'late' bars have also been closing at regular times. You can still head up to Petchburi and get after hours 'entertainment' but for some reason, the more visible one's are getting a lot of heat to close on time.

                              Cheers
