Actually it is true, sort of, smoking is banned in public buildings and in indoor bars where food is served. However, it is not really enforced, and most if not all bars allow smoking.

One day it will be enforced but but who knows when.

Smoking has been banned in Clubs and Resteraunts for a long time. I have neverseen it enforced.

I think the new law bans smoking in open publc area, parks, etc...

I expect the normal 0.00% enforcement rate, unless you are a farang caught smoking and the copy needs an extra 200Baht.

While everyone has the right to smoke, I would like to see it banned from public indoor places.

Smokers can step outside to smoke, and not stink up the place. That would rock. It's one of the downsides to going to the bars when the Japanese roll through in numbers, smoking like their lives depended on it.

You know as much as I've lived in Asia the past few years I've noticed that too, not only with the Japanese but the Koreans, Filipinos and Thais as well.

Just curious of what the lung cncer and emphazema (SIC) rate is .

Jay installed an air purifier in the bar which cleans the air completely something like every 30 minutes - quite good fun looking at the filter and seeing all the shit that gets trapped in it. She will also be getting a second one to put into the lounging area as the first one has proved to be so effective and not at all expensive - cant understand why other bars dont do the same thing.

                          Cheers

Yeah I was thinking the same thing Stogie! Most people would think that in Thailand of all places prostitution would be legal... Here is a little run down of the history of it all.... not like it really means anything!

                            Legal situation and history
Prostitution has been technically illegal in Thailand since 1960, when a law was passed under pressure from the United Nations. The prohibition is not enforced; instead, the government has instituted a system of monitoring for sex workers in order to control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.[1]

The Entertainment Places Act of 1966, still in effect today, makes it possible for Thais to render "special services." This is done, for example, by establishing such places as massage parlors where men come and look at women, who are sitting separated by a glass wall, and can pick and choose who they want. The women come to the men's hotel room and 'massage' them, but, in reality do more than that. It is usually left for the customer to decide what kind of "special service" he really wants, and because of that, such establishments are able to avoid being designated as (illegal) brothels.

This act was designed to pave the way for brothels to be legalized in the guise of massage parlours, bars, night-clubs, tea-houses etc. It was enacted at a time when the Thai Government sought to increase state revenue from the "Rest and Recreation" activities of the US armed forces stationed in Vietnam.

The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act of 1996 outlawed the hiring of prostitutes under the age of 18. It also contains language that outlaws people associating in prostitution establishments for the purpose of prostitution; this provision does not appear to be enforced.

                            Possible Legalization
In 2003, the Ministry of Justice was considering legalization of prostitution and held a public discussion on the topic. Legalization and regulation was proposed as a means to increase tax revenue, reduce corruption and improve the situation of the workers.
