Visa update...

I now have another 15 months in the LOS thanks to the wonderfully friendly and efficient members of staff working at the Thai consulate in Hull, England.

I was in the consulate a total of 14 minutes, about half of which was spent filling out the paperwork.

I have a non immigrant 'O' type Visa. Which means multiple entires that I can use to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for up to 90 days at a time. So if my last entry is in 365 days time I get another 3 months!

Getting this Visa (£100 - $190) will pay for itself 10 times over in border run fees saved!

Mind you - don't get me started on Hull! What a dump!

If anyone is seeking to get a similar visa or even just a tourist visa then I highly recommend you seek out the good folk at this Thai consulate.

I took the easy but not the most cost effective way and got myself a Non-Immigrant 'O' vista meself in September. I used one of the legal services listed on Thai Visa Forums. Payed by credit card over a secured service, no problems with the paper work and had the visa in my hand in less than a week, all without leaving the comforts of my home. When this one is close to expiring, its upgrade to a 'Retirement' visa for me. With my roots now firmly established in Thailand having finally closed on my home I wanted to be able to bring some items here and not get stuck with a hugh duty tax bill.

I've got my new Immigrant Visa B yesterday, without any problems also.

That's what I said in another post, I think at the moment it's the best way to apply those kind of visas in your home country.

Check out the Farang Connection website, www.farangconnection.com and go to the properties section. Scroll down to near the very bottom and check out they white home with the blue tile roof that's listed for 5 million Baht. It's now mine, bought and payed for with the equity from the sale of my home in the Bay Area in Northern California. I really like the peace and quiet of Surin, it's an easy five hour car ride to Bangkok or Pattaya, prices for everything I could want are much cheaper and my home is only a five minute motorbike ride from a Big C. a Tesco-Lotus, a Makro and 7/11. I am outside of Surin, in the countryside but close to everything. Did I mention the weather is a whole hell of lot nicer than Bangkok and the air that I breath is cleaner. Since I am no longer in the game I have everything I could possibly want. Life is good for me and my "sweetie" and we are looking forward to happy days ahead.

Nice one... Good luck, PM. Surin is a good place to spend a secluded and serene lifestyle. 5 Mill for that looks like a bargain, too!

Thanks Stogie. I had seen this home last year and even went to look at it a few times before deciding to pull the trigger and just go for it. I had seen that the home was on the market for over a year with no takers so I took a shot and offered him a low ball offer based on the falling U.S. dollar to the Thai Baht. He balked at first but I stood my ground and he got the home for 4.5 million Baht. He had even built a small studio unit in the back part of the property since he had listed the home, with it coming fully furnished, he only took his T.V. his stereo and personal photos I think that I hit the mother lode.

...sounds like a great plan...not too unlike what I'm thinking. I also cashed out of the bay area, went to Europe for 2 yrs and now on this rock in the Pacific......why not keep moving west? Thanks for the info and good luck....ALOHA
