remember this is just one guy's opinion; some of you may agree or disagree and that's why they make vanilla and chocolate.....
i have just toured the 5 largest tourist areas in Thailand pretty extensively over the past 6 weeks, and for some of the places it was my 3rd, 4th or 10th time there. In my opinion, this is how they shake out, using an american baseball analogy, in terms of nightlife and chasing ladyboys.
Single A; this would be Ko Samui, which, while a very beautiful place, is really the minor leagues when it comes to the shit that the guys on this board like, namely ladyboys and nighlife. You can get both there to be sure, but in smaller numbers and there is really only 1 or 2 streets to go out in all of Chewang Beach and even less in lamai beach. very beautiful place and the beaches are nice, but this is really a place to BRING a date, not find one. i would say that there are probably 40-50 good-looking ladyboys here, and most can be found in the Christy's Cabaret area in Chaweng. One note here; the Raggae Pub bans all ladyboys; boycott this asshole establishment just on principle.
Double A; Chiang Mai. Beautiful place and perfect weather, and some of the most beautiful ladyboys in the world live here. However, can you find them? not always easy. and English is definately a second language here or 3rd; it's very hard getting your point across to many people in CM. The Simon cabaret has some stunning ladyboys and there are many freelancers in the Thapea gate area, but all in all this place is also the minor leagues for ladyboy-hunting. With that said, coming to CM will yield some of the best-looking ladyboys anywhere, to be sure.
Triple A; to me, this is Phuket and Pattaya. both have great nighlife, although Pattaya probably has the sheer size and numbers of ladyboys to top Phuket. However, Phuket has much better beaches and more shit to do in the daytime, as well as over 100 or more available ladyboys in a very small area, so I personally would give it the nod over pattaya. Both places are amazing and should be seen by every person at least once in their lifetime [except of course pale white american or british housewives]. This last trip to Pattaya, where i stayed for 9 days and met Sir Ted and had more fun than ever really re-opened my eyes to this crazy place, whereas in the past year or 2 i had pretty much given up on it there. now after about 15 visits there i can't wait to go back. and of course i can never stay away from phuket, AKA the 'total' greatest place on earth for many reasons.
The Majors; For so many reasons, the best place in thailand and indeed anywhere else to hunt ladyboys and have fun is the city of bangkok. whereas Pattaya and phuket are the Toledo Mud hens, BKK is the Yankees. While Chiang Mai is Eminem, Bangkok is Sinatra. Where Samui is the high school marching band, BKK is the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The best city anywhere has hundreds of ladyboys, amazing electricity, beautiful females, awesome nightlife, great food, Khoa San road, sukhimvit, Nana plaza, Cowboy, as well as an airport that can get you to any of the above cities in an hour [bus station to get to pattaya, only 2 hours away]. BKK is the majors; everything else is simply the minor leagues.
Again, this is just my opinion. i wouldn't turn down a trip to ANY of the above places, but if it were up to me [and it always is, after all],I prefer to stay in the big leagues.
