when will police raid on bars stop? I be in thai for two months vacation,an help?

Hello Billy,

Thai police will only raid bars for two reasons.

1. When a directive comes down from above.

In this case normally they will pre-warn the bar owners that are up to date with their pay-offs and will come into the bar area slowly to ensure they do not find any infringements. As a 'falang' if your passport and visa are in order they will not bother you.

If they are doing a drugs check (I have no experience of this!) they may ask you to piss into a container and take your details.
If you are caught with anything - more fool you! I would think that 2000-5000 baht would sort out most problems!
If you have any exotic substances on you - lose them at the first oppportunity!
The penalty for importing drugs in Thailand is DEATH - you are a 'falang' - you MUST have imported the drugs. If you are from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada they will not execute you. You will merely spend about 5-10 years in one of the worst jails in the world and then be deported.

2. If the bar owner has not kept up with his payments. In this case you might get hassled.

In both cases - say nothing - be respectful - to a point! Don't argue - don't try to point out that you are a citizen of .....
The police are not really interested in you - only in doing their job. They will leave you alone after a short time of messing you around.

I have only once been near to a police raid. When it was due most of the disco seemed to know it was coming

We left and the four of us - 2 falangs and 2 ladyboys were not bothered on the way out!

Don't let this put you off Thailand. It is a safe country and the police are normally very good with foreigners.
The Thais respect status and money - as a falang you have status and you obviously have money

Yes good points RR - though I fear the wonderful thais are a little too generous by thinking that ALL falang have some form of "Status" and we need to definately change this view if we are to safeguard this ethereal country from being really abused by certain "football" falang who are already making a foothold unfortunately, however thank God for the ARMED Thai Police.

If you do see the UK football scum tourists in their laughable tracksuits and cheap trainers - (for fuck sake even if they were expensive trainers nobody of worth would care you trailer trash) then do laugh and tell them to behave.

I do not mean to offend all uk football supporters per se but rather certain skinhead scum hijacking football colors to cause anarchy in Pattaya, (who seem to have emigrated from Benidorm - please go back and eat your fucking pies there and continue to fuck your grandmothers because your so fucking degenerate).

Clearly these people have no status whatsoever and I dearly hope these animals are ignobly thrown out of Siam after being "interviewed" at length by the Thai Police who I am reliably informed are very proficient in the art of exporting.

You seem to have a thing about police raids! They are not at all common - I bet very, very few of the members of this site have ever seen one let alone experienced one.

As for the girls - they are pretty much the same age range where ever you go.
They cannot legally work as a prostitute until they are 18. Some occassionally do start younger - if they look really young be wary - check their ID card.
Most get out of the 'business' in their mid 20s. Some do earn enough money to head off to Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and sometimes Europe and continue working there longer. It is rare to find girls over 30 - most will have aquired enough money to retire by then.

Better? You'll have to answer that one yourself.
There are more girls in BKK being a big city, but even then some of the free lancers move down to Pattaya for the tourist season.
I understand Pattaya has a good number of girls at any time - can't really say though - I have never been there myself.

Just find a cheap flight to either BKK or Pattaya and go and enjoy yourself.
If you don't like either it's about 2 hours in a bus (I think the fare is about 100 Baht) between them.
