The whole beauty queen pagent farce is just entertainment for the masses, & gives the lucky few GG's, LB's, TS who win a few moments of false stardom.

A stroll down Copacabana Beach in the day & a cruise through the little parasol bars on the edge of Avenue Atlantica in the early evening would reveal loads of really beautiful GG's with the occassional TS for good measure, most of whom are rentable. Very few western women have real exotic beauty, but they can pretend they have in these pagents, but a fair contest it 'ain't.

Beauty is also in the eye of the beholder, & thankfully not all of us like the same, western women would also have no male friends either. Each to there own!

I watched this contest on TV here. There was only one Thai contestant, out of 25+ entrants. There must've been 5+ from the Phillipines. I think the Q&A portion, conducted in English, plays a big part in the outcome, so some have a distinct advantage. Mimi Marks really nailed it in winning last year. I was surprised she didn't come back his year, they played an audio recording instead, as she was quite popular here.

I thought that both runners-up were better looking than the winner.

Anyway, for this contest I think they want to choose a winner from outside Thailand, and possibly outside Asia? There are are plenty of intra-Thailand LB beauty contests, so lots of opportunities for the Thai LBs.

Unfortunately SB is right, there are a lot of politics involved in contests like this. Both last year and this year's winners were selected more to promote the pageant outside of Asia and encourage more contestants to enter from Europe/North America/South America and some from Asia.

This year one of the 10 or so Filipinas should have won, or maybe Miss Thailand. I heard Miss Thailand flubbed her question from some of my lb friends. Last year Miss Korea was my favourite, she was absolutely stunning!

This was disgusting. I watched it. The Thai girl was a 10. The entire other 29 girls in the set were at best 7. The winner, maybe a 5.

English or no English, the Thai girl was so far ahead of the crowd it was embarassing for the other contestants, and I hope this pagent degrades annually because everyone watching it knows it was a farce.
