Yes there were bombs that went off in Hatyai, and I assume the militants were targetting tourists. My initial thoughts on this is that the potential threat might even escalate further up north although I sincerely hope not.

Anyway, at Torurot's 'urging', I've decided to update the forum with some pictures posted a while ago of my LB runs in Hatyai. I'll let you decide if going there is still worth the risk.

Just a note, I've just been to Hatyai 3 weeks before the bombs and there is a thriving LB scene there. Not sure now if that remains the case, as some LBs who I keep in contact are thinking of moving on to pastures new, either Phuket or Bkk.

Jacko ... tell us more about HatYai. I've never been to the southern end of Thailand (though close at the northern end of Malaysia). I've heard its a hangout for expats (gosh, I wonder what they do there). Can you give a trip report? Pictures? What and where is the LB scene.

I would guess the Muslim areas in the south of Thailand are more prone to unreast ... they haven't been treated well (or competently) by the Thai government, and seriously want to join Malaysia from what I understand. Not a good situation these days. I can't really see the unrest moving to other areas of Thailand though

As travellers anywhere in the world, we are exposed to all types of seen and unseen dangers.

When I started this thread, my position on Hatyai was that it is still relatively safe to go to. And believe me, the LB scene here is well worth exploring. The LBs are less pushy than most of their jaded cousins in Nana, and there is a decent enough chance to get to know LBs who are not in the P4P scene.

However, I'm beginning to change my mind about going back in the very near future, simply because I don't want to be bomb to bits!!!

Hatyai does not enjoy too much farang presense. In that sense, for all LB hunters out there, if you ever make your way there, you are almost guaranteed great attention from the LB community simply because......you are different! Hahaha, the irony of it, you will be viewed as 'different'. As such, I honestly believe you will have some pretty good Girl Friend treatment from the LBs here.

From my experience, I would say there are some 30-50 working LBs here (that I know of anyway) and quite a few non working ones. there is a decently sized university here that has quite a community of LB students, some of whom I have had the honour of hanging out with.

There is a Cabaret here that is quite large which has you usual array of femboys, gay boys and superstar LBs. Most if not all are for hire of course. Huge stage, but you should sit in a private booth, enjoy the stage performance (maybe even bring a pair of binoculars), see what you like on stage, tell the waiter/mamasan, and before you know it, the superstar LB on stage miming to madonna's "like a virgin", is sat right next to you in your private booth. Quick negotiation and she's yours for the night.

I've been offered services from as low as 500 baht, but an average price for LT is 1000 baht. Superstars who mime to Madonna can charge (they hope) as much as 2500 baht LT.

Not sure if that is right. Most punters here are from Malaysia and Singapore with your odd farang here and there.

Hatyai offers a different P4P LB scene when compared to Bkk or Phuket. Besides the LB cabaret, which is comparable to Tiffany's etc, the working LBs normally wait for punters around the corner of the main tourist strip right next to McDonald's (not KFC, D-P!). On any given night, there would be around 20-30 LBs trawling this main road (incidently, this is where the bombs went off, hope it wasn't meant to get rid of LBs in hatyai, and that the bombs was just for some silly ideology struggle). There are quite a number of student LBs who work part time in the big shopping malls here, and I would rate your chances of chatting one up is pretty high.

There are plenty of laid back pubs that have decent enough live bands that plays top 40 pop and all the classic oldies that you can request. However, my favourite bar called Wonder Bar which is just opposite the McD's where the LBs hang out was one of the spots where one bomb allegedly went off. Have to confirm that first hand, when I make my next pilgrimage in a months time. Anyway, the pubs here are laid back, good music that doesn't fuck your ears up (although there are plenty noisy clubs around too), and are generally LB friendly.

All hotels that I've stayed in are LB friendly, and if you notice the background of the pictures I've posted, it shows a very very decent hotel room for only 700baht. If ever there, I recommend the New Season Hotel, which is just around the corner from the main strip.

Great memory you have there. Damn shame about the lost phone number though. I might have posted Bee's picture at the ladyboy locator, but no luck.

As for the Hat Yai LBs, they certainly can hold their own against their bkk cousins. I've now got a better camera, and will try to have better pictures and updated reports of this "troubled" spot by next month.

Groundhog, Hatyai is a great place to visit if you want a more laid back night scene. However, if you do plan to go, you would be best advise to check your dates to make sure it does not coincide with any "significant" dates of the militant muslim 'terrorist' calendar. That is to say, their party's anniversary, maybe their one year anniversary of some massacre by thai army etc etc. That is when they will most likely strike again, although with the martial law imposed now and the army in charge of LOS now, who knows what the fuck will happen here in the south. Just bear in mind that the bombs that went off here in Hatyai were at the MAIN tourist road/strip. That means they were either targetting tourists, or the LBs, or the P4P GGs. As I've mentioned before, if you are visiting hatyai, more likely then not, you will find yourself sat on a bar stool somewhere along this main strip sucking back on a cold beer.

None of the LBs I've been with here were muslims as far as I know. As for circumsized cocks, they were too far up my arse for me to notice.

There is an airport in hatyai, direct flights from BKK. Fly air asia or another low cost carrier, it shouldn't cost more than 3000 return. They have daily flights.

Well, you will like hatyai if you want to avoid the farang mob! However, a few nights in hatyai more than covers it IMHO. There isn't really much to do in the day time. Golfing is one. A short trip to the beach about 45minutes away is another. Hangout at my favourite day time hangout, called Pink Lady, which is an "aquarium" massage joint. You can pretty much sit there, looking at the ladies behind the glass, suck back on your cold beer, eat as much thai food you want, and when you feel like it, pay 1500 baht for a GG to shower, massage and fuck you before going back to your bar stool. That's pretty much how I spent my day time there if I do not have a LT LB with me.
