Probably not - and even if they said they would, you would probably find, they find some way to wriggle out of it given that there is virtually no legal redress in Thailand.

Having said that, medicines are much cheaper here than in the west - the govt HIV medicine costs about 2,000 baht for a months supply by all accounts.

Maybe the customer should take the test instead? or as well as the LB..... you need to ask how an infected LB would have contracted the disease in the first place.

There was a report in the New York times about 2 moths ago which says that millions or Americans have HIV and dont know it. They are already contemplating some kind of compulsory testing in the future...Also in Europe this is a problem. So maybe the customer is a danger as well.

I have used this tests before and I have found them to be very good, easy to use and had no problems getting anyone to take the test.
No blood needs to be drawn although that is an option.
The test unit is an abrasive paddle which you run lightly along your gums inside your mouth where HIV antibody's can be found if you have HIV.
The paddle is then inserted into a vile with developing solution and left for about 20 minutes.
The developing solution is drawn through the abrasive paddle and up through the handle of the test unit where the test results are read.

The results are shown in the form of two red lines. One above the other.

The bottom red line is a control test to let you know if the test is working properly.
This line should be visible, telling you the test is working.

The top red line tests for the HIV antibody if you are HIV negative it will not be visible.
If you are HIV Positive the red line will become visible showing you two red lines one above the other.

The other way to use the test is to take a drop of blood and put it into the vile with the solution then place the paddle into the solution and leave it for 20 minutes. The results are read the same way.

I usually took the girls back to my room and politely asked them if they would take the test. Some were scared of having to give a drop of blood but once I explained that no blood would be drawn and all she had to do was run the test paddle across her gums, there was no hesitation to take the test.

I only had 1 Positive result out of about 20 girls tested.

yikes...even 1 infected out of 20 is a lot ... thats 5%.. was this all in bangkok?

Here's a great hypothetical: what if a clever scientist put the test into a chewing gum. Pop the girl a stick of gum. Tell her it does cool things. Show how it goes from white to green in your mouth. If it goes white to red in hers, let her keep the gum, and find another girl. Tell her it's your "date gum" - you want to find a girl whose color matches yours. What it's really doing is the same stuff of Orasure and the like - reporting HIV antibodies.

I have no clue who the 45% who said they would do the test right there in the bar are. I have never seen it done and think the number is bullshit.
