  • Mobile phone number change

Is it true that all Mobile phone numbers in Thailand will be changed on September 1st ?
I heard there will be the number 8 placed in front of the 01-XXX, 02-XXX, 09-XXX, etc..so to become 81-XXX, 82-XXX, 89-XXX, etc..
    Thanks

You are corrrect that a change IS imminent! But the '8' comes after the first '0'!

Beginning September 1, users of all mobile telephone systems will have to dial the prefix 08. For examples, the number 01-123-4567 will be changed to 08-112-345-67 and the new number of 09-123-4567 will be 08-912-345-67.

    Hope this helps!

      Stogie Bear,
I hope that's right, because when checked sometime ago i thought that 123 Call was still  not set up for the new numbering scheme. It could take untill late October.

      My number is 06 09XXXXX

      Regards
      Richard

          Some info and explanation!

Well - I've asked around (and this includes my service provider help line - DTAC) and the best advice I have is that it is indeed going ahead on the 1st of September (my birthday!)

I obtained a Thai number while I was in bkk recently. Any idea how I may set it up to receive messages now that I am back in North America so that locals can call and leave me a message and I may call in to check messages from here? I tried to call it and there was some sort of Thai message. Not sure this will work but any help would be great, thanks.

The phone companies require that you establish some kind of credit with them so if you just recently got a number if it is inactive for more than 30 days it will die on you.

There are help lines and English language assistants with all the big players (12Call, DTAC, Orange etc.)

google the web sites for more help.

However SB, its a pre-paid SIM chip in a new Moto cell from MBK so no clue how to set up a voice-mail that I can retrive from here. Any more tips?

From Sept 1st for 90 days you can dial the old way or the one with 08 in it, after 90 days the old way will not work.

Hello all, I have just heard that all the mobile numbers in Thailand have been changed, from the start of September. Can anybody confirm this ,as I have just put my 5-6 ladyboy list together, for my October visit.
If this is the case is there just an additional number to add onto the existing numbers I have collected?
