There was a reason that I didn't explain what RSS was on the original post... One of the poll questions was "What are RSS feeds?" I wanted to find out if many of us used them or knew what they were. It seems that not a lot of us do use them and most of us don't know what they are.

    So, what is RSS?

RSS is a system that allows members to subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, a webmaster can put their content into a standardised format, which can be viewed and organised through a RSS-aware software.

A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check a list of feeds on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that it finds. It is common to find web feeds on major websites and many smaller ones. Some websites let people choose between RSS or Atom formatted web feeds; others offer only RSS or only Atom.

RSS-aware programs are available for various operating systems. Client-side readers and aggregators are typically constructed as standalone programs or extensions to existing programs such as web browsers. Many browsers have integrated support for RSS feeds. There also are other applications that can convert a RSS feed into several usenet articles, viewable through the major newsreader software such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Forté Agent: an example of such applications are nntp//rss, a Java coded program, or RSS Feed Converter a script for the popular mail-newsserver Hamster.

Web-based feed readers and news aggregators such as YourLiveWire require no software installation and make the user's "feeds" available on any computer with Web access. Some aggregators combine existing web feeds into new feeds, e.g., taking all football related items from several sports feeds and providing a new football feed. There are also search engines for content published via web feeds like Feedster or Blogdigger.

(flassitor @ Sep. 30 2006,22:46) I probably would not use the RSS feeds as I have already updated to the TSS feeds. If you are still using RSS feeds you are way behind the times.
Just a guess but I would say you do not work in IT
NO, I do not "work in IT".

I wrote that as a "SMARTASS" because about half the people who responded to this thread asked politely what RSS is and I would like to know myself. However, no one who "works in IT" or knows about IT has been polite enough to answer and let us know what RSS is, so I thought that if I would be a SMARTASS that maybe then someone would tell us.

        THANK-YOU!!
        OK no need to SHOUT.

I did provide a link but seems even that was too hard to click on for some, nevermind I try to make it easier in future

Surely RSS is for more time-sensitive stuff?

I am guessing that I am one of the more frequent visitors to the forum - I pop in most days and have a wander around. (Or maybe I am way wrong, and everyone else is sadder than I thought!!)

So, why would RSS be useful for anyone other than the forum owner/moderator?

From what I've read and see adn such, have a few question I like to ask!

If we do have RSS and got say Google reader as one mention about it. Can we reply to teh post via the google reader? (If yes, then great)

Would this RSS emilinate the amount of emails generated if you have subcribed baords to watch for new topics? (If yes, wow stoogie what ya waiting for get RSS feed!).

I've seen these RSS thing all over the palce especially on yahoo and such but never really bothered to look deeply into to learn what it is really.

                Thanks, PJ

What about an editiable lb wiki?

For my upcoming trip. I am building a spreadsheet of Thai lbs features in main photo site for about last 2 years.
(Basiclly, to figure out who I am most likely to bump into at which bar in which city.) I suspect many of the info is no longer current. And too much for the site management to keep track.

But if each member just update what they learned on each trip. We should have the line up of most bars reasonablly current. Maybe even lineup with numbers for each bar.

A fine idea, but this would be so hard to keep up-to-date and accurate as the girls seem to come and go as they please. Some are staples in the bar scene, but others seem almost fly-by-night. If you do come up with it, please share with the board. It would be interesting to see if you could get this going.
