RSS Feeds...

Well, if you don't know what they are you'll probably go for the last option! If you DO know what RSS feeds are please let us know what you think of them.

We are toying with the idea of introducing RSS feeds to the site, The Clubhouse and on the forum.

It's not too much work to set up, but would you actually use this feature if we bothered to do it?

I have tried this in the past with news and a couple of other things but eventually got bored of it and abandoned it. But what I want to do and what our membership want to do are not the same so I have been asked by my bosses to investigate this and find out whether or not this is something that would be of service to our members.

I'd be greatful for any sensible comments on this...

Seriously work has been very busy and so not had much time to myself.

In answer to your question you sure can attach pictures. You can turn off images etc though in your reader if you want to. Which some guys would probably want to do whilst at work.

What work?

Install an RSS reader and point it at the RSS feed.

You could even use Google reader

You usually configure your reader for how often to check for updates from a feed. So you do not have to do any work the reader is doing it all for you.

I assume for the forum you would be able to see new thread topics and new messages for existing topics. This could also include the pictures depending on the feed.

One thing I would suggest however is to host the feed on a domain which does not look like a porn website otherwise it defeats the purpose of being able to read it at work especially those who use proxy servers in their workplace which most people would.

I wouldn't mind it, but I actually like to browse and peruse the forum on my own time, I'm not necessarily concerned with being current on the new posts and what not. Even if we did have an RSS feed, I'm not sure I would subscribe. I think in the end, its just more work on your end and it doesn't look like most people on the site even know what an RSS feed is so I doubt they would use it.

I probably would not use the RSS feeds as I have already updated to the TSS feeds. If you are still using RSS feeds you are way behind the times.

NO, I do not "work in IT".

I wrote that as a "SMARTASS" because about half the people who responded to this thread asked politely what RSS is and I would like to know myself. However, no one who "works in IT" or knows about IT has been polite enough to answer and let us know what RSS is, so I thought that if I would be a SMARTASS that maybe then someone would tell us.
