Transsexual charged with drugging and robbing victim of 200,000 yen

OSAKA -- A transsexual man has been indicted for having a man take sleeping pills and stealing about 200,000 yen from him after he fell asleep, prosecutors said.

The Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office charged Kazuhiko Yamada, 33, a jobless man who underwent a sex change operation about 10 years ago, with robbery.

The victim, a 34-year-old man from the Osaka Prefecture city of Takaishi, expressed surprise that the robber was a man because he was dressed like a woman. "I didn't notice the robber was a man," the victim has told investigators.

I think the insensitivity shown TG people in Japan is apparent in the article.

The article repeatedly uses male pronouns and qualifiers such as "man" to describe a post-op transsexual. Further, statements such as these are insensitive:

"Kazuhiko Yamada, 33, a jobless man who underwent a sex change operation about 10 years ago"

"expressed surprise that the robber was a man because he was dressed like a woman. "I didn't notice the robber was a man,"

To top it off, the article ends with:

"About 10 years ago, Yamada underwent a sex change operation and has since lived as a woman even though legally he is a man. He calls himself Kaori Yamada."

In Japan, a law passed in 2004 allows a transsexual to change their legal sex if they are unmarried, childless, have had a sex-change operation and been diagnosed by 2 separate doctors as having gender-identity disorder.

The culture of discrimination that gives rise to these restrictive laws is reflected in the language used in the article.

I certainly could not work out your point from that  -  I was looking for hints in the article and all I could see was biased reporting  

I probably have a similar opinion to you about the discrimination  

Like the tranny with the stick shift - I guess I'd find her freelancing on the street somewhere
