The report said the LB acting alone competed in a beauty pageant. Anyone has her pics? Is this what thai police do to petty criminals? (I did not say pretty criminals, they aint from their pics in the cop shop!) Name and shame them in public?

Also the press reports and police refer to the lbs as male not girls. Does this mean, they are not recognised as women in Thailand? Or the cops do that as part of the shaming of thieves?

Is the moral of the story which has been discussed here numerous times, stay away from the street girls?

they have male id cards. so even if the man or lb was disguised as a duck, the person would still be called a man ...

Ladyboy arrested after suspected theft from Pakistan man on Pattaya Beach.


Police Captain Somporn from Pattaya Police Station received a complaint from Mr. Saheed Ahmed aged 32 from Pakistan in the early hours of Sunday Morning. He mentioned that he was approached by a ladyboy as he was walking along the Central section of Pattaya Beach, in front of the Nova Lodge Hotel. The ladyboy came very close to the man and asked him if he wanted to accompany him to a hotel. He refused his advances and left. Some moments later he realized that some cash had been stolen from his pocket. A full description of the suspect was circulated amongst officers and the ladyboy, who competed in this year's Miss Tiffany Universe Competition, was located further along the beach and taken to Pattaya Police Station. He was positively identified by the victim and 3,000 Baht in cash, which had been stolen, was recovered. Records indicated that the suspect, Khun Napat aged 24 had been arrested on numerous occasions for selling sex on the beach and for theft. He is now safely behind bars and will appear in court within the next few days.


Doesn't sound like the Miss Tiffany show does much in the way of a background check on contestants.

The only reference in the story i saw was "2 men who stole a motorbike",separate from the 2 ladyboys who were referred to as "transsexuals".

And this is going to be the final question before my flight in a few days time. Bearing in mind the coverage and the said attiude of the cops, do they have a dim view of ladyboys, or rather those who work in bars or on streets?
Do those LBs spend their crimes primarily on the farangs?

I know lbs are part of Thai culture, but are those that are respected as such are the the non prostitute variety?

There are lots and lots of ladyboys in Thailand, so its like talking about any other group.

Some have normal jobs, some become bar girls, and some are theives. A few pickpockets is not respective of the majority of Ladyboys. As for the cops, they have a dim attidtude towards crooks. Period.

Beach road in Pattaya does get a lot of pickpockets at night, preying on drunk tourists. As Jesse James said when asked why he robs banks..."Because Thats where the money is".

Hate to spoil things for you DP, But sukemvit road near the Asoke Skytrain is just as infamous for LB pickpockets as Beach road in Pattaya.

For non-lb pickpickets, try Khao San road or Chatuuchak market
