Ex-kick boxer Parinya Charoenphol detained in Singapore
Thai kick boxer-turned-actress Parinya Charoenphol, 22, was detained
by immigration officers at Changi Airport in Singapore because her
appearance did not match her passport. Charoenphol spent about 45
minutes explaining that she was born in a man's body but had sex
reassignment surgery four years ago. In Thailand, transsexuals are
not allowed to change the sex listed in their passports. At last a
member of the airport staff recognized her as Thailand's former
katoey, or lady boy, kickboxing champion. Then she was detained
because so many members of the airport staff wanted to meet her.
