Yeah, but the problem is that we're not supposed to enjoy it! They do it, it's painful, it's nasty, etc., and they get paid to do it. That we might actually enjoy sex...damn, what kind of weirdos are we?!

It's not only that many don't like others telling them what (or who) to do or not do, but that we're told what we should or should not like - that's very irritating.

Guys, just as a bit of further info. Self mutilation (where there are lots of cuts on the wrists) has nothing to do with attempted suicides or the desite to cut your dick off. It has more to do with a feeling of emptyiness and worthlessness, and the feelings of pain etc. that are felt during the mutilation are meant to replace the lack of other feelings. Not a completely scientific answer (half remembered words from a friend whose brother was a shrink) but at least you know your dick is safe.

In my experience, self-mutilation is almost pathognomonic for Borderline Personality Syndrome. Borderlines often complain of feelings of emptiness and as a result seek out immediate attachments and become overly dependent. They typically cannot process emotions well, and when someone disappoints them, they very characteristically take their devaluation of that person to an EXTREME (becoming violent / physically abusive is not uncommon). They often experience intense psychic pain, and can sometimes dissociate into a trancelike state. Some self-mutilating behavior, including cutting of skin, can occur during these dissociative states. I have had Borderlines tell me they cut themselves to see if they still feel the pain. I think it is less frequent that they cut themselves to draw attention to their situation. This self-mutilation is distinct from other types of self-destructive behavior they may engage in, such as dangerous sexual practices, including promiscuity, or drug-abuse.

They tend to be pretty FUCKED-UP in the head. If you meet a girl who you think this might describe, I'd run like hell. There is no cure, and no good treatment.

ggs. never stayed long enough together with a lb to have an argument, except from masha, but she is a nutcase.

There are plenty of suckers with rose-tinted glasses who are willing to try to rationalize the weirdness anyway they can.

Nonetheless, cutting oneself is harmful and reflects serious psychopathology.

Just a quick note: "cutting" is fairly prevalent in America, specifically in teenage girls. The lead character in the movie "Secretary" (which is a fantastic movie, and very romantic btw) was a cutter. Someone who I have known for a long time was also a cutter, but worked out of it in her late adolescence.

In many cases it does stem from low self-esteem. It can also be a cry for help. It can also be self-punishement, etc., etc--pick your reason. From what I have read on the boards, here and in other places, I wouldn't rule out that some of the ladyboys may be doing it for the drama or to emotionally blackmail their man of the moment; but there are probably deeper, more personal reasons for the cutting.
