So, inspired by the Gay Sex thread, I've recalled reading (*) a psychiatric review of a post-op LB (American, I think), that said the girl had moved on, had a new boyfriend, and was settling down. Regarding the boyfriend, the shrink said he was a former-TS (amazing, no?). Apparently he had been cross-dressing and even had counseling. Somewhere along the way, the bf and gf met, and the bf reverted to the male role, and the gf went through with SRS. What really surprised me was the comment by the psychiatrist: he said something along the lines of "This isn't a very surprising occurrence to most people who work professionally with transsexual patients."
Is that so? Well, we're a very poor sample of the population, but perhaps we can get some insights. Anyone want to tell of their early inclinations or gender identity disorientation? Cross-dressing? Hormones? Anyone switch back to a principally masculine role? By the way, that seems to be very common among American TGs: there are a great many who crossdress in high school or college, then go the route of the ultramasculine (e.g. Marine Corps) and then back again, over and over, until their pendulum swings firmly to SRS, etc. (It's a sampling issue, no doubt: how likely is it that someone who adopts a firmly male role will admit their prior experiences on the other side? So, the only ones we learn much about are the ones who finally fix themselves in the LB identity.)
As for what happened to me? Well, I never had confusion, but I found out about TGs a year or so before reaching puberty, and I suspect that made puberty a little richer.
