  • Ladyboys are THAI only!

Well, I have seen the word 'ladyboy' used to describe many things and many people from many places, but to my mind a Ladyboy is from Thailand ONLY.

If she's from outside Thailand she's called something else. FINAL!

So - what do YOU think? Is the term 'ladyboy' simply a catch-all phrase for anyone who wants to be a ladyboy or all shemales in general?

Come on guys... put me 'straight' on this!

Well I do not know the technicalities of this but I would say ladyboy is a term that can and is used throughout most of asia. However most local cultures also have their own terms for what we call ladyboy such as Hijra (India) and Waria (Indonesia).

Now maybe the term was originally Thai but I think it has transcended the boundaries of Thailand and caught on in other countries as well.

The first time I heard the word ladyboy it was in Thailand and about Thai TV/TG. I've voted for the first option.
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!

I did too, but I think Oz has a valid point also..... while the word Ladyboy does indeed come from Thailand and refers to Thai ladyboys, some other countries around there now will call their shemales Ladyboys based on how often they see that word on the WWW and in other places. Thailand can take proper credit for the word I believe, but girls in other countries have picked up on it and use it now also.

Ladyboy has been used in Hong Kong for a long time. PI LBs in HK have used the name since at least 1994 and probably long before that. All the Girls in the caberet at the New World Kowloon were from PI.

I think the term has transcended the borders of LOS and can be used for anyone who fits the category. All ladyboys are transgender women but not all transgender women are ladyboys. I've seen too many TG's who definitely do NOT fit the ladyboy category. More like the lumberjack in a dress with bad makeup and a five o'clock shadow.

Never heard them refered to as a Ladyboy/Ladyman anywhere else. I like to think that this makes our favorites in Thailand very special and superior in everyway to all else. Just one man's personal opinion only.

ladyboy is not an Indigenous Thai expression. The native expression is 'Katoey' , 'girl type two' or 'other type of girl'.

Since its not native to Thailand, I vote for 'All Asian', since I have heard it used for vietnamese and burmese.

I don't know the who, what, where, why, when, or how, but whenever I hear ladyboy, I think Thailand and no place else.

Although I do not doubt that the term "ladyboy" first gained popularity and acceptance in Thailand, it seems to me that it applies to all of asia

In 1974 I was in Singapore where the term 'Billy Boy' was used to describe a shemale, while in BKK the term Lady Boy was used.

Makes sense to me,,I wouldn't like to called a boy either.

But I think ladyboy, shemale , tranny, is used in general terms
