What actually are those woman doing in BKK, if they are not the heavily depressed, completely lost wifes of some expats (and they normally give up going to clubs within 2 months!) All this is completely beyond my imagination......

well, I went to Q-bar only one time with Aon in 2003; we were entertaining a couple I knew, a rich Pornographer from the states and his Thai wife. Aon had on jeans and a sweatshirt [those Thai winters are cold don'cha know?] and I had on my usual sandals and shorts and a t-shirt. needless to say we were a bit underdressed but that is always the case.

 I think the entrance fee was 500 baht each; first and last time I ever paid a cover charge at a Bangkok club not called Hollywood.  But that gets you 1 free drink; IF you can get to the bar.  The place was way beyond fire-hazard levels and the line at the bar was 3 or 4 deep.  when Aon came back with my Jack and Coke it was gone in 3 sips and not much Jack in it.  We stayed elbow-to-elbow with about 400 people, half Thai hookers and half goofy-looking farangs who think they are in somewhere cool that is like an over-priced Hard Rock cafe that they just HAVE to check out when in Bangkok. yuuucccchhh.

  Music..... is that what they call that?  no lyrics, no voice at all, just some jackhammer sound that reminds me of the factories near my home where I grew up in Southie and repetitive as hell.  I dealt with the place for 2 hours with a smile on; the Thai wife of my porno friend wanted to hang there and I was a good trooper but did NOT like that place and neither did Aon coincidentally. I have never been back and never ever will go back.

 little-known fact; the Q-Bar got its name from the original one in Saigon, named for the people who founded it, some Viet Khuie [ex-pat Vietnamese] people who had moved back from the states with coin and wanted to open a trendy bar.

Actually the place is usually packed, but that's what you have in a good club. You pay 600 Baht entrance and get 2 drinks free and they are mixed perfectly! I'm super-picky on that and the cocktail quality is actually a kind of USP of that bar. You must have caught really the wrong day, man. They have a no-shorts&sandals policy - well that sucks and you would not even get in when you're wearing Gucci sandals - but considering the fact that this bar is filled with a stompin crowd, you'd rather wear parachutists boots.
But one thing is definitely true: Those goofy looking fret boys in their khakis, blue button-down shirts and Timberlands are really the last thing you want to see in a club.....

Ya, to each his own man...... I just hate it when people have to tell me how I am going to have to dress like I am fucking 6 years old again. Trendy places usually attract people that bother me and I hate big crowds and the music; well, you know.

I worked in a factory when I was 18, the summer before I went off to university just to gain some spare cash. whenever I walk into a place like this {or Kings Castle 3, or Obsessions, or......etc.... } it just reminds me of that factory; thomp, thomp,thomp, thomp, thomp, and at speeds that only a meth addict can understand and decibals that would make a rock star shudder. I don't get it.

I only go to Q-Bar because Mystic is near closed. We went there first. It used to be the bar to go AFTER all the other bars closed. It's peak was 1-4 AM. Now it CLOSES at midnight. Last night there were about 10 cops and about 15 customers. Rumor is he got the 'wrong' license and pissed off some 'royal' person, and thus, bar is essentially fucked forever by the cops.

Now, JaeDee, that is a cool bar, with zero doubts. I have to somewhat agree with you Q-Bar is not great, but it is packed, and the LBs actually like it, but not weekly for sure. For something totally different go there before 9:30 AM, no cover charge. There are 128 different kinds of vodka (I counted them). I made it to No.8 then had to leave first time I tried.
