Good luck with the project. There may be new avenues to explore. Most of the stuff I have read deals with modern times, but LBs must have a history going back hundreds of years.I guess post ops were called eunuchs for centuries and had a number of roles such as singing in choirs and looking after harems.
However availability of hormone tablets and sex reassignment surgery has caused an explosion of LB beauty in modern times.

Yep - (as noticed) I did a sharp U-turn when I found out who was writing the book! I have read a lot of insane nonsense over the years by well meaning academics and writers who talk to a ladyboy over a drink in a bar and think they have news for us all!

One idea would to be to post installments - wait for a reaction, then after a few days delete the original post and post the next bit!

This is arguably the finest resouce for grass roots knowledge on the internet (apart from the girls themselves of course!)

Good luck with the book, I too am a bit sceptical, as I have read alot of crap about various places I have visited, I spent about 4 months in total working in Nepal, & found the lonely planets guide one of the most miss-informing proiductions about the place I have ever read.
But I will certainly be the first to say "well done" once I've read it, if its good. But thing is for sure the LB community DOES need some positive press.

I was watching the Lonely Planet TV show the other day and the guy was traveling around Thailand. He gets to Bangkok and then says "Most people think of Bangkok as a sex tourist destination... but really it's only 2 streets here for that kind of stuff" and they show Patpong and some girls. Then he says it again "That€™s it... only 2 streets... and a sick place it is!" and he walks away shaking his head acting all discussed.

I was really pissed off by that show. It was totally inaccurate and to keep stressing that the sex for sale in all of Thailand was just on 2 dirty little streets it was just so wrong. It was like they were telling you don't come here for sex... there is none!

Yep, dead on Lonely Planets is for backpackers & how to be miss-informed, I suppose he also neglected to point out there is an excellent market ( for tourists ) in the Patpong1 street. Plus of course Patpong is old news been around the longest, but old news now, & nowhere near the rip-offs & scams its used to be.
If he thinks thats disgusting get his arse down to Kason road( spelt wrong, but I am sure you know it ) where all the backpacker scum hang out in dirty low rent hotels / hostels, then drag his arse over to the full moon party on Ko pan yan ( also spelt wrong! ) make him look at the mess left behind by those idiots, more backpackers. Thats disgusting!! We have more respect for these people than any of that dross, & we spend more money too. Backpackers     !!! Sharing beer & pouring scorn on sex tourists & the areas we frequent, well if you don't like it leave & go ... "find yourself"... in a proper developing country with out all the nice people & modern day facilities.

Lonely Planet is for the clueless and judgemental. If you want a cheap laugh just look at their forums here . Full of 'exciting' enquiries and enlightened debate by intrepid, alternative back-packers.

Be happy they rarely find their way outside of their Khao San ghetto, and thankfully stay along way from NEP, Pattaya and the more interesting parts of Phuket.
