Hi guys - I'm going to try to take advantage of my noob status to ask more dumb questions. As with most boards, most members usually ask newer members to do a search before posting obvious (at least to them!) questions. As a newbie, I had a ton of questions and did run some searches, but rather than sifting through all the posts, I thought it might be helpful to start some kind of FAQ, if not for my benefit but for others as well. Any member, please feel free to post or add your thoughts! My questions are like:

1. What exactly happens in these LB bars? Do the LBs just come up to you or what?

2. What's standard etiquette in the bar (i.e. do you buy them drinks, etc...)?

3. When you decide to take an LB back with you, how does the bar fine work actually?

4. What would be a typical bar fine in BKK joints (on average) for say 1 hour and all night?

5. What's the typical fee for the LB for say 1 hour and all night?

6. Is there a best day (i.e. Saturday, etc...) to find LBs?

7. Do most LBs speak at least some English?

I am a frequent visitor to Thailand. I do not claim that what I am to say next is gospel, just my limited experience.

1. What exactly happens in these LB bars? Do the LBs just come up to you or what?

At most of the bars, the LB will approach you. This varies on the degree of aggressiveness. In my experience the Casanova LB were probably some of the more aggressive ones that I have experienced. Generally though if you make eye contact or in some way let them know you find them attractive or interesting, they will come right over and usually ask you the standard questions: What's your name? Where are you from? First time in Thailand? Sometimes, even if you are not interested, they will come over.

2. What's standard etiquette in the bar (i.e. do you buy them drinks, etc...)?

Generally the girls will ask for a drink but not always. After being at a particular bar alot, often the girls will stop asking me. I was pretty well known by the regulars.

If does not hurt to buy LB a drink, it is my understanding they get a share of this purchase. If you are not interested in her, one can let her know politely. Once I got the lay of the land so to speak, it was often other LB who recommend LB for me based on my preferences.

3. When you decide to take an LB back with you, how does the bar fine work actually?

She will let you know the barfine. You pay her and she gives it to the bar. Then you go shag the night away. :P

Some cheapies have been known to ask the girls to meet them outside when the bar closes and sometimes they do this. Your mileage may vary.

4. What would be a typical bar fine in BKK joints (on average) for say 1 hour and all night?

From what I remember the BF is the same regardless of the hours you take them. My numbers may be a little dated, I have not been back for about six months but the BF are generally BKK>Phuket>Pattaya. In BKK I think it was 500-600 baht, but someone who has been there more recently may be better in the know.

5. What's the typical fee for the LB for say 1 hour and all night?

Like most things in Thailand, things are open to negotiation. It also depends on the time of the month, is the girl needing some cash, how attractive you are, how nice you are, whether there is a full moon, tiny variations in the force of planetary gravity......you get the pic?

Just an informal guide: approx 1000 b st and 2000 b for lt in bkk. remember these are round numbers, ask the girl. if you are unwilling to pay they price walk. there are too many nice lbs out there that one shoul dnot pay a price that they don't agree with and risk a bad experience.

6. Is there a best day (i.e. Saturday, etc...) to find LBs?

in thailand? all 7 days are good. Most of the people hitting these bars are not local so the party keeps ticking

7. Do most LBs speak at least some English?

Most will speak enough to get a transaction done. But if you want to discuss the finer points of world politics and literature, good luck. Those LB are few and far between.

Well, like you say - the answers are on this forum somewhere, but finding them all can be a friggin' nightmare especially if you are new to this forum and the scene in general.

So having a FAQ thread is probably a good idea...

1 - The ladies will swarm all over you when you walk into these bars and it makes no difference who you are, whether or not you live here and what you look like.

I've never barfined a girl or taken one home but still they come. I am just a mark to them and we all look the same in their eyes. A farang is an opportunity and even if you have said 'no' a million times before they keep on coming!

2 - If you actually like a girl and you want her to talk to you then you rerally should buy her a drink. (She makes 50 Baht a pop for each drink.) If you invite a girl over to talk to you then buy her a drinlk. She will expect it.

The girls shouldn't ask for a drink but they almost all do. I never buy a girl a drink if she asks. (But then again I never invite girls to come and talk to me either!)

3 - The bar fine is 600 Baht every time. The girls have to make at least 8 a month. They get cash bonuses for more than 8 and the amount reflects the number of bar fines. Some girls pay their won so they can keep working.

If you decide to take a girl she will add the 600 to your tab or you can give her the 600 direct and she'll pay the mamasan and then she is free for the evening. She'll go and get changed into street clothes and sit next to you.

4 - The BKK bar fine is 600 Baht. This is not negotiable.

5 - A typical fee for a girl is too variable to answer in one thread but I'd say 1,500 to 2,000 for 1 hour is about right and 2,000 up for a long time.

Short times are more common and a long time means that the girl is feeling tired or lazy and you are staying in a nice hotel!

6 - There is no best day. The bars are busier at the weekends but are more manageable from Monday to Thursday! Do you want a bigger selection of girls all to yourself or do you want to party!

You should have asked what the best TIME of the night is!

7 - Yes is the short answer. Almost all of them speak enough English to get by.

Ladyboys are extremely skillful and clever. They can spot an easy mark a mile away. They will lay guilt trips on you and extort you for anything they can.

Most are generally honest but a lot will be opportunistic if you are stupid enough to leave things lying about and you drift into a drunken coma.

Good hotels will call you before the girl is allowed to leave. (They leave their IDs at the desk.)

Don't believe ANYTHING they say. Just nod and smile. Trust your instincts and fuck them and chuck them.

You will NOT find love in a ladyboy bar. A few bloody idiots have tried it and been fleeced and emotionally raped.

Many of the girls have Thai boyfriends and/or farang sponsors. You mean nothing to them and if you kid yourself that you are special then you are a fool.

You are as special to them as the money you can give them.

O.K.... great stuff Stogie/relpax, so what is the best TIME?

I've read on the forum that 7 pm is a great time to plant yourself with a brew in BigDoggs and watch the show as everyone shows up for work - LBs and GGs.

Based on this, and the time it takes for them to get ready, and I've read that many get ready in the areas just outside the doors to the bars, an educated guess is about 8:30 - 9 pm?

yeah it is as close to a nightly parade of hotties are you are going to find in this world.  Definitely a nice place to scope out who the hot ones are.  One thing to keep in mind though is like alot of things in thailand, the actual start time of any activity....is...shall we say fluid?!  Bargirls can stroll in there plus or minus an hour or more.  go figure.  I wish I could tell the techs, ugh don't put anyone in the CT scanner until an hour after I am scheduled to work.....I may be rolling in late. :P  if only i could be so lucky. hehe

Alot of them do get makeup/hair/general stuff done outside the clubs or in side the clubs for that matter.  However, I would not get so bogged down into what is the best time.  Go whenever you feel like it and you will likely find something to your tastes.  If you are really picky if you find someone you like...get a phone number and buzz them.  have fun.

thanks  ... I've already selected several ladies from the site that I'd like to meet and wanna get them bf'd before someone else does. When I get closer to my departure date, I'll post a request for phone numbers - I've only get a couple of numbers so far but do know which bars they work at (as of today anyway). it looks like the locator on the site is out of date, or that the ladies do move around quite a bit and it would be hard to keep updating the site.

Zeppo brought up a good point - what percentage of LBs are GFE (i.e. willing to kiss, cuddle, etc...)? I know in the US it is extremely uncommon for most "professionals" to be a GFE.
