  • Drink all night... CHEAP!

Every thirty days I pop out of the country to get permission to come back for another 30 days! (Yes - it's insane but I don't make these rules, I just follow 'em!)

The minibus picks me up at 05:10am and I get back at about 12:30 in the afternoon.

As Kui was spending the night in town I thought I'd spend the night with her at her hotel and just walk from Nana to Asok at 4:30am.

    So I did just that!

Even at this ungodly hour there were lots of food stalls dishing out drink and liquour (and some food!) and there were loads of girls and ladyboys to share it all with, too!

Many of the stalls were clearing up but many more were open for business on that stretch of Sukhumvit between the two BTS stations that connect Nana Plaza to Soi Cowboy.

This 'social crackdown' has really invigorated the late drinking trade!

Also - it's worth mentioning that there is virtually a zero police presense and tourists (at least for now) are free to just get on and enjoy themselves. (I seem to remember posting a few weeks ago that (I thought that) all this would be stopped, but it seems that I was wrong!)

Frankly I prefer the 1:00am closing times. The beer and girls are much cheaper on the outside!

Penthouse is a short time hotel next to the PB (Playboy) hotel. Go down soi 3 (from Suk), past Grace Hotel and it is down the next side road. Look down the road and you will see the signs for PB. Penthouse is just after it.

Just tell the taxi driver "Rong Rairm Penthouse, soi sahm". They all know it.

                    Thanks for the map, Snick...

If you are late renewing your visa they simply charge you 200 Baht a day 'overstay' fee. It's no hassle and they don't mind at the immigration places.

If you are stopped by the police while you are on 'overstay' inside the Kingdom (even if it is for one day) then you are in a world of fucking hurt!

If you get caught on the street and you are an overstayer then you will be locked up and detained at the Immigration Detention Centre. You will be fined and will need to pay for a ticket to your home country. Note they will keep you locked up until this is done. After you have been deported the vast majority of people can simply re-enter with no problems.

However if you get to the airport or the border then it is simply a case of paying a fine. You are given 1 days grace, then it is a Bt200 per day fine, to a maximum of Bt20,000. You also get a stamp in your passport, which could potentially cause problems with visas etc, especially if you have a few.

Not sure that exact deal with the "overstayed stamp" is, I overstayed 2 or 3 days once and I just paid the fine. I have never heard of anyone actually getting the "STAMP"

Best best, do it on time.

And don't use a service that promises to take your passport and get it stamped for you. The government has been cracking down on those and its big trouble if you get caught.

also, don't even think of trying to get your tourist visa extended. The policy is so fucked up that not even the officers at immigration understand it (trust me on this), just leave the country and come right back.

i also did the monthly poi pet trip every 30 day, but from pattaya you have nice mini busses w tv, so it is not much of a problem, just kind boring, and the trad hassle by the cambo locals.

in addition to all the food stalls along sukhumvit, there is or at least was a place open after closing time in suk soi 11, opens 2-3am or so, and keeps on until 11am or til the last bg or punter get home. this place is only for those who likes bangiing techno though. no name on the place. walk a a hundrer meter from suk, and look for a thai guy that will probably ask you. it is upstairs ...
