Check out the first real low cost carries in Asia, Air Asia based out of Malaysia. Think South West Airlines or Ryan Air. Currenly mostly to and from Malaysian airports, but don't be surprised if this expands further.

If they are anything like Ryanair then their idea of landing at Bangkok will be Chiang Mai.

Hey I am all for low costs but I aint crazy about the CEO offering advice on how the pilots should land the aircraft in order to minimise wear and tear on the $6,000 tires!!! A bit scary if you ask me! BTW do they have a web site and it sounds as if they are just starting! Anyone know if they fly BKK to bali yet?
