  • What if....

    An hypothetical possibility:
What if transexualism would one day become a fashion, and I mean a serious hype that everybody-must-have(be)-it, and not just something confined to alternative artists to show off something different.
TS being featured on magazines, television and other medias.
Something like just another fashion. We have had grunge, punk, and so on before...
What do you think would really happen?
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!

As all things seem to come and go in fashion, I guess it's not a matter of if, but when. I wonder if South Korea may be the first country to make it cool. Despite their conservatism, they do have 5 very well known hot TS musicians - Harisu and the 4 from Lady. In addition, there are several more who seem to be somewhat well know; JuRi (Yuri) Park is one of them. In the US, which is 10x the size, there's nobody. Israel? Dana International and Aderet, who both seem to be gone. Brazil - Roberta Close was several years ago, and I've not heard of anyone since.

The Chinese entertainment media has a hard-on for TSes, especially the Korean variety.

In any case, check out South Korea. Harisu has been everywhere in the media, and has appeared in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and elsewhere. When she came to the US, she didn't even make headlines, as far as I can tell.
Retired the top 12.  Need a new dirty dozen.

Update: The new list is coming together: Nong Poy, Anita, Nok, Gif, Liisa Winkler, Kay, Nina Poon.  Is it possible to find 5 more?  Until then, GGs:  Jessica Alba, Yuko Ogura, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Q, and Gong Li.

It will and there will likely be quite a few variations of movies similar to the Crying Game. It will only take off world wide as it relates to ladyboys so passable that the lines of sexuality are blurred and a new supersex will emerge. Of course, the Christian Right will condemn it to no end but to see technology catch up with imagination is amazin. I feel as though it will likely be narrow in its scope in that it will mostly focus on the ladyboys of SEAsia and possibly Brazil. You will see a large segment on 60 minutes and possibly a famous Thai katoey model become famous worldwide at the level of the supermodels. This will happen quicker than you realize and is already happening to a certain extent.

          Yes it has...

There is evidence of a mainstream androgynous culture as far back as the decadent ancient Roman empire. More recently the foppish and aristocratic Britain of the 1800s.

But most recently the explosion of unisexual music in the late 70s to late 80s really gave the blurring of sexes it's first real global test.

There has been the occasional foray into 'multisexual' or campish misic with groups like the bizarre (and crap) KISS and more so in the 'glam-rock' era of Britain.

And this allowed an explosion of popular bi-sexual and transexual(ish) icons such as Adamn Ant, Marylin, The Pet Shop Boys etc...

It's since waned in popularity but blended sexuality no longer surprises us when we see it on MTV etc.

As for the idea that there might be a new 'Vogue' of transexual relationships and transexual culture; well, yes... it's just a matter of time.

When it happens there will be transexual salons, toilets, clothing sections and clubs 'en masse'.

It's already started but soon enough our little 'quirk' will be no more a 'quirk' than eating sausages with jam! It'll provoke an 'uergh!' from most people until the new Beckam takes his bra off and all of a sudden it'll be hip... and hip with botox!

Stogie, you're such an academic! Our ATS Don, no doubt.

Brock's very right. Once there are more than a handful of supermodels who are TS, then it'll take off. Harisu has taken off, and has been in many mainstream ads, for perfume, cosmetics, clothes, and more. If there's another 2 or 3 TS models who come out as TS (I've heard that some models, perhaps even well known models, are TS but don't come out) in South Korea, there could begin to be a spread through Japan or even HK/China. In the US and Europe...well, it may be awhile. Still, there's Tula, Dana International, that girl Nadia from Big Brother, and some others. April Ashley would no doubt claim that she made it cool in the first place, but I think she's delusional and washed up. Then again, she's before my time.

I'm also pretty sure we're on the best way to establish a new anrogyne/ts culture - subculture and fashion was and is still there. It will take a while and as you said all the right wingers in this world will do as much as they can to block that movement - but it's really getting popular. Males clothes are becoming more and more feminine, when you look at the latest Spring 06 shows in Milano, nearly everybody had his androgyne collection and it's not only Vivienne Westwood, Gaultier or D&G anymore. That goes through all the big fashion houses.
The famous post-ops like Harisu or Jin Xing are becomig kind of icons of that movement. So let's see where we're heading.....
              Cool thread - excellent question!

..then, will there be more/less rivality between GGs and TSs ??

For you guys who are living at close contact with LBs, what LBs really think about women ??

                  A loaded question isn't it?

Ladyboys think of themselves as women. They also think the same AS women!

Sure; there is a deep seated (mild) envy at not being a 'proper' woman. (Dunno about hookers. Who really knows what they think!)

Ladyboys are pretty strong and reslilient. It takes these traits of character to even admit publicly that you are what you are. They cover up their selfconsciousness with either extreme shyness or rather more flamboyant behaviour.

They look upon women as they look upon themselves for the most part.

more people will come out of the closet. there are alot of bordeline customers in los already, but scared of what their friends think etc
more guys will dare to walk out of nana with their ladyboy instead of making arrangement by phone. and again bigger competition, unless more gay thai guys cross over to be ladyboys since there will be more customers.

Yeah, but there aint that many who do right now, and some of them look as though they have had half a bottle of whiskey before they had the balls to do it.
Walking around in the daytime on a Saturday afternoon with an LB on you arm is more of a test as to whether you give a shit or not, the first time I did this was dammed hard for me, I kept walking too fast and she would pull me back and hold onto me even more closely with a big grin on here face.
I also find that some LB's can be painfully shy in the daytime away from their freinds and familiar enviroment, I guess most people are to a lesser extent, but it just contrasts with their behaviour at night.

Could just be the yabba though

When she walks, she’s like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle

I've been to resturants, movies, tours, with Vicky, Tar and some others, and I find it's always a positive influence on their personalities to get them away from the bars for awhile, a day, or three. My absolute favorite thing to do is when hotel staff says "No ladyboy in loom", and I just give them a glare and say "This lady is my wife!" and continue to the elevator. I have never been stopped, the girls esteem and self respect is recharged, and it pays off in the sack. The one drawback is when you go back to the bar and believe me, she ain't letting any other lb get close to you.
