What do u do when u go to these small villages-walk up to the village elder and pay him to recommend an lb?Isnt it a bit dangerous to be a solo farang in non farang country?
You just travel, stroll around, hang out in the cafes and clubs (every village has a kind of local disco and by the way Isaan pubs with local life music are really fun!) keep your eyes open.....that's it! You always spot them - and if not they will spot you - as you're mainly the only farang up there!
Dangerous?? C'mon! Just stay low key and don't forget your smile!
The only thing I would never do is to hang out with local guys and get drunk. Thai men can be quite unpredectiable and freak out easily when they're loaded!
Mai Kee has hit upon the true answer, really. But this way of 'getting to know you' is for the seriously dedicated who have lots of time at their disposal and who genuinely want to change their standards of living. Issan sucks as far as living goes!
Also - don't forget that most ladyboys have their first sexual experiences with Thai guys from their home towns and if you hit their home turf looking for Miss Right then you are going to inherit that legacy of jealousy and protectionism.
There isn't a definitely correct answer to the original posters question, but this thread should at least provide plenty to think about!
I have done this a lot and never had any real troubles with the guys, although you're right, the girls all have Thai bf's. But most of the time it's like in BKK - they still do have Thai bf's there too, but the guys know that "giving" her to the farang sucker, means at the end of the day also some cash for them too. Those dudes have such a pimp mentality and without trying to generalize here too much, but most of them do barely more than hanging out with their buddies on motor bikes, get some booze and gamble the money the girls bring home.
..... kinda cool life though....
Good thread. I would go with the multi-pronged approach.
First, from home, try working the want ads such as can be found on dragoncastle, face party, and friend finder. There can be some gems there, and if you have the time, why not? It is generally fairly easy to see who is working and who isn't.
Once here, as said, try some of the late night clubs at Ratchada and perhaps at the new and slightly older RCA. If at all possible, go in groups and with Thais. This breaks down barriers much more easily. Sure, there is a mix of pros and not, but it will be fun nonetheless.
The suggestion by Ziggy was an excellent one. Although I have never tried a paid referal, the idea to get LBs to introduce you to their friends is spot on. LBs, especially the non-working ones, can be particularly susceptible to fears of judgement and rejection. If they know you are open to them and a friend introduces you, then you are in very good shape.
You might want to try cabarets as well. Some (though certainly not all) of the LBs at the shows go with farangs only very occasionally. Though getting them out of the house in the daylight may be an issue.
As for the university teaching idea, that is very difficult. As a teacher, you would find yourself the source of trouble and endless gossip if you started hitting on LB students. You would need to be very discrete, and even then, word would get out. You job might be in jeapordy.
If you just visited (vs. teaching) a university, you will be a farang walking around a place with tons of babes, but they will all be in groups and for the most part you will be very much an outsider. To just have the balls to walk into a university and try to hit on students in their groups is asking alot. I suppose you could play dumb tourist and say you are looking for this or that, which would break the ice, but that is tough too. A very difficult one, imho.
But for eye candy tours, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Bangkok U are best. Chula is worst.
A friend of mine who visits universities decided to print his name on a bunch of little cards, and when he sees a cute LB he just hands her the card when no one else is looking. He says he got a few 'bites' fishing this way.
I can tell you this, they are lots of 'good' LBs out there who are looking for Farang Boyfriends - The trick is finding them.
One bit of advice, do NOT offer them money or discuss money - just say I am looking for a girlfriend.
other one is Mthai.com and the link is to type 4 which is gay. easy to determine which ones are LB's, as they look like gilrs, all have email addresses and some telephone numbers, again if you know thai you are miles ahead but several have english as well.
Great links, already chatted on MSN to a cute 19yr old...wow... now gotta suss if she is really as innocent as she appears... goes to uni and cooks for a job... hmmmmm... will soon have an idea if she cooks in Nana !....
She seems great at the moment, time will tell..... will keep u updated

Happy hunting.
I always found Ramkhamhaeng the best, as it's an open university and literally filled with LB's - and by the way, I always do the "tourist/ being interested to study this-and-that" thing. After a little chat you take them for some food/ icecream/ drinks nearby and here we go.... Easy job and nearly always works.
As Snick said, they are practically all looking for a farang bf!

Bringing them for ice-cream uhu?
I agree anyway..it happened to me once I went to visit the art gallery of Chulalangkorn (forgive the spelling) which often hosts important Thai artists exhibitions. I ended up meeting a bunch of GG's and among them there was a very cute LB. Didn't do anything as I was leaving the very same evening but for sure there was ground for further development
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!
