you can find nice places to live for half that amount [20,000 baht] easily. with the other 20,000 you could easily feed yourself and pay for entertainment, etc, as long as you don't fuck all that much, for cash anyway. you can live in BKK for 1000US per month if you have to, but 1500 would be much better and more comfortable.

$500 will get you a studio on Sukhemvit with swimming pool ( very few have gyms ). Modern building. NOT 1500 sqf.
OR
$500 will get you a 1 bedroom in a soi off Sukhemvit. older building (5-10 years), small pool.

$1000 for a modern lux building w. terrace, pool and gym, on sukhemvit Rd. sounds about right.

On Sukhemvit 35-63 area, $900-$1500 will get a 2 or 3 bedroom place, 10 minute walk from sukhemvit. Swimming pool, car park, terrace. Usually a 10-30 floor building.

I have not had any problem with bugs, my place gets sprayed once a month. And I freely invite any ghecko to hang out.

You have to do a LOT of leg work in this town to avoid being ripped off. Find someone you trust LB or GG and just hire her to be your guide for a few days while you wander around neighberhoods. The good deals are found by seeing the signs on the street. And get a lawyer to close.

If want to stay more than 30 days, you need to buy a 2-month tourist visa for $40. For 3 months it's $60. Do NOT forget to bring statements of your checking AND savings account showing an acceptable total. Silly but gotta do it. Divas is the place for trans in San Francisco.
You will find them other places like Castro or elsewhere but Diva's is the epicenter.
Castro is gay, not specifically trans.

If you look on booking.com there is hotels all around Diva's at all prices.
It is close to Fisherman's Wharf and most other SF Atractions.
San Francisco proper just isn't that big.

You can go to Diva's any time but weekends is the best.
I believe the main floor is always open from 8am to close.
Diva's is four floors and they all are usually open on weekends or special events.

In my experience all hotels in USA and Canada let you take whomever you want to your room.
Obviously the bigger hotels tend to be more discreet.
Working tgirls sometimes have problems checking into hotels, but I've never been question taking anyone to my room in either country.
