News Story in the US says that ED drugs may be causing blindness in some users, but also caution that it may be a symptom of the ED itself. Could be a real downer for the LOS!

THE sex drug Viagra can cause blindness, scientists have claimed.

They say a number of patients who took the drug suffered a 'stroke of the eye'.

That's when blood flow is cut to the optic nerve, causing serious damage that often results in permanent blindness.

The American researchers at the University of Minnesota studied seven patients aged 50-69.

All had typical features of stroke of the eye within 36hours of taking Viagra. Seven similar cases had previously been reported.

Dr Howard Pomeranz said: 'For years, we've known that some men who take Viagra will experience temporary colour changes in their vision and see things as blue or green.

'But this stroke of the eye is a much more serious condition because it can lead to permanent vision loss.'

He explained: 'Viagra regulates a chemical in the body to constrict the arteries.

'This constriction may cut off the blood flow to the optic nerve where the blood vessels and nerves are tightly bundled.'

All of the patients studied had at least one risk factor including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and other blood problems.
