As explained in my original post a VPN is very useful if your home country or internet service provider censors and blocks particular internet sites. For example I am working in the Arabian Gulf area and forums like this are blocked, as well as many others they deem as content offensive to Islam.

Also some internet services such as Netflix will provide a wider range of movies and tv programs to the US vs: other countries.

You have to determine if it is worth it depending on your circumstances.
